When he returned

Prologue

~10 years ago~

"Apparently, there's a new boy today," Sky squealed into my ear, causing me to quickly cover my ears. She was just too exited over a 'new boy'.

"I know. Apparently, He lives near you, Jenny," Daisy said whilst looking at me as if she couldn't contain her excitement, " maybe you can walk to school with him. Maybe, you and him could become boyfriend and gi-" Daisy was cut off by the loud shriek of the bell. It was cold so we quickly huddled inside, glad for the distraction. Sky and Daisy are my two best friends; We've been friends since reception and we are extremely close. Through thick and thin, we've always been close.

 As I'm walking in, I accidentally knock into a slightly taller figure. I slowly lift my head to see who I walked into and I'm mortified to see that I just walked into the new guy, and he's looking down at me with concern. I flash him a grin, say sorry and walk into class.

"Alright, Jake. Seen as though you've already met Jenny, you can sit with her and she can show you round today," the teacher exclaims and I quickly grab his arm and drag him to our seats near the window.

"So, do you know what 5 times 6 is? Maths isn't my strong suit," I turn to the boy beside me, surprised he actually spoke to me.

"I hate maths, it's so boring," he winces at my angry tone," Sorry it's 30 I think. I didn't mean to be harsh."

I showed Jake around and told stories of some of the places. When it came to the end of the day I offered to walk him home and he accepted. Daisy was correct since he lives opposite me.

After that day, we walked to and from school together. We would hold hands, even when it was warm and always went to each others houses. We quickly became best friends, and we did almost everything together

For the next couple of years everything seemed perfect. Around may one year we decided to have a sleepover. I'd never slept around a boys house so this was a new experience. We stayed up late watching films under a blanket together when he decided to play dares. 

"Kiss me...I dare you to kiss me," I laughed and declined even though I really wanted too. He made my hands go clammy and a blush crept up my cheeks.

Every year, in the summer holidays, Jake would go to Italy with his family, it was a tradition; When we were in year 5 he went on his annual holiday but only his mum came back. She told me that they were moving to Italy and I didn't even get to say goodbye to him. She left a few weeks later with all their stuff and I had nothing left but memories with my childhood best friend.

~6 years later~

"Sky I'm not going to Skype him. I haven't seen him in 6 years. I don't even know if he remembers me. I mean, it's only been year since we fell out with Daisy and she acts like she's forgotten us. This is six years!" I say on my bed, cross legged, facing her. 

She opens her mouth to speak but is quickly interrupted by my ringtone blaring beside. I think she even glared at my phone. 

"It's Alice, I think she wants to come over," I ask Sky whilst picking up the phone to answer it and she instantly nods.  Alice joined our trio about 6 months ago when she joined our school and ever since I accidentally threw a bottle at her in German, we've been close as ever.

"She'll just say why I've been saying, I'm calling it now," I shoot her a glare whilst clicking answer and pressing the phone to my ear.

"Hel-" I'm interrupted by Alice screeching down the phone at me," Call him right now and let me in, I'm outside," instantaneously she ends the call as I get up to let her in. She runs straight past me as soon as the door opens and wanders to my room.

"You know what I think you should do?" she states whilst bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Do I even want to know?" I rub my hand across my face as I already know what she's going to say. Se nods at me before glancing mischievously at Sky.

"call him right now!" they say in perfect harmony, reminding me of the twins from the shining.

"Okay, fine. I'll call him."
