"So, is this where you run off to when you ditch us at lunch?" I asked jokingly to the duck-butt sitting next to me. We were right by the baseball field, by a hill filled with grass and a few weed flowers in bloom. It was very impressive for a rude guy like Sasuke. Best thing was it was completely empty
He simply shrugged as a response. "S-sorry..." He muttered and I blinked. This guy is full of surprises today.
Looking over, I noticed his cheeks were dusted with pink. I got the evil eye smirk. "Ehhhh? Is the Sasuke Uchiha blushing at my simple presence? My my." I giggled and he panicked.
"P-p-pft! A-as if! Why would your ass get me w-worked up. Humph!" He defended trying to cover up his stuttering.
Obviously, I didn't believe him, but I didn't take it seriously. He was my pal, and I loved to mess with people. "Not that it matters, but did you have a reason to pull me from Regan? I mean, we're not attached at the hip or anything, but she doesn't really like being alone with our friends." A bead of sweat rolled down my forehead at the thought of what might happen to someone like Naruto, if they got particularly mouthy.
Sasuke seemed to get the same idea as he let out a hearty laugh. "Don't worry about that dobe. He'll be fine. He can handle his own pretty well. Once, Neji threw him out a window, when he saw him and Hinata talking. Accused him of hitting on his cousin." Sasuke kept chuckling, shaking his head. I imagined the even-tempered Neji losing his cool, I let out a louder laugh.
Suddenly, a hand engulfed mine. Looking at it, I noticed the obvious, it was Sasuke's hand. I pulled it back quickly. Sasuke stopped laughing, his face kind of fell with it. For a few seconds, neither of us said anything.
The rest of lunch with Sasuke continued with a similar awkward tension. I hated it, but I couldn't help but notice the blush on his face. The only explanation I could come up with was that he kinda liked me. I wasn't one to have a big ego but it just makes sense. And this would make things complicated. And complication is something that I'm not fond of.
The minute I walked back into the school I decided something, I'd do my best to avoid Sasuke. I wouldn't be a two-timer or someone that leads on the people I cared about. Not now, not ever.
REGAN'S POV
I thought the worst when I noticed Ertha wasn't going to show up to lunch with the group, but was quickly informed by Kiba that she was invited to eat lunch with Sasuke.
Naruto had taken Ertha's seat next to me, and it made me feel claustrophobic. "Regan? You don't mind right? I'd normally sit next to Sasuke, but he's gone with you the person you sit with, so I thought we could sit together? That's fine right?" Naruto seemed extremely nervous. Normally, I'd brush him off somehow, but it didn't sound too bad at the moment, so I just shrugged.
"Go ahead. I won't stop you." And for a reason unknown to me, I smiled. Not a half smile, or anything along those lines, an actual genuine smile.
Naruto turned bright red and looked as if he might pass out. "Actually Regan...." He drifted off and fiddled with his thumbs. "I uh... Was wondering... If you'd like to hang out sometime. Like, a uh... a date?" His voice wavered a bit. I was about to let him down easy when an image of the buttwad Hidan appeared in my mind.
'Why is his face coming to mind now? I can't seriously like him... Right?' "Um... Sure Naruto! That sounds fun." I answered without thinking, it was a desperate attempt to rid him of my mind, and it seemed to work so I decided to go with it. How bad could it be in all honesty. Naruto wasn't a bad guy after all. He could be kind of sweet and thoughtful at times. It wouldn't be hard to like a guy like him.
So why can't I get that idiot's face out of my head...
