It has been about three weeks since I left Alagaesia and all has gone as planned, but I left with a hole torn in my heart. When I had to leave Alagasia, I left all I knew. I left my home, my family, my friends. Arya...I put all put that far behind me.
I felt the familiar touch of Saphira's mind against mine. I lowered all barriers and then allowed her access to my mind. She angrily said " Eragon, you must stop thinking about old times. You always block me out and every time you think about Arya you have so much pain I think that you're hurt."
Eragon guiltily replied, "Sorry Saphira. It's just hard being away from everything I have ever known and the only person that I ever wanted in my life."
"I know little one, but if you keep holding on to those memories like that you're never going to be happy."
" So should I just forget?" Eragon snapped.
" No, you should remember them as what they were and not think about what could be. " she replied forcefully.
"Sorry , but it's very hard not to think about her."
Suddenly Bloodhram came dashing into the room excitedly yelling, " Shadeslayer! Come quick."
I quickly jumped up and dashed to him, asking if there was anything wrong. "No," he replied, "But we found something."
I couldn't hold my excitement any longer. I ran to the stairs and bounded up them two at a time until I came to the deck of the ship. I saw a beautiful mountain with many snow covered peaks above the clouds with what looked like a large cave in the middle. There was a valley with a lake, a large forest, and a huge grassy area at the foot of the mountain. But what really caught my eye was that there was one red speck circling it. Suddenly the speck dove and rushed towards us. I knew only one thing that it could be. "Murtagh and Thorn!!!"
I shouted to all the elves to put their weapons away, but Saphira didn't seem as confident."They are trouble. They always get themselves into the hardest situations." she said, angrily.
But I know she is still getting over Firron. Soon enough Murtagh sat down on the side of the river and we brought the ship to a stop.
I heard Saphira complain, "Do we have to go see them? They always bring trouble."
"Yes we do. Now do all dragons complain as much as you do?"
She huffed and angrily said," Joke now, but when they get us in trouble, don't cry to me."
I chose to ignore her comment. The rest of the elves and I vaulted over the side of the ship. My half brother, Murtagh, leaped off Thorn and happily said, "Hi. What are you doing out here? It's a little far from Alegasia isn't it brother?"
I gladly replied, "Where else would I train new dragon riders and raise wild dragons?"
He smiled and laughed, "Well I know the perfect place. You see those mountains over there? I was planning to make them my home but if you can get some dwarfs here or elves they could make the most amazing keep."
I happily replied,"Will you stay to help train the riders? It would be hard to do all by myself. Of course the elves would help, but only a dragon rider can understand some things even though the elves do have an understanding of almost all things."
Saphira piped in and complained only to me,"Eragon, you can't allow them to stay. They will bring the first mad king they find to us."
I snapped back, "We need them. They can offer better training than the elves can and Murtagh learned things from Galbatrox that even I don't know!"
She was quiet after that. Murtagh had just made his decision and said in a more playful tone, " Oh... of course I will stay. We must rebuild the order of the riders. We don't want another mad king on the loose, do we?"
"No definitely not." I happily replied. I said in a enthusiastic tone,"That mountain is close enough. We could just hike there and Saphira and Thorn could move the supplies."
They all agreed with me. They started the trek, led by Murtagh, while I loaded the supplies into two giant wooden baskets. After I loaded it all up I climbed onto Saphira's back. She jolted up using her powerful wings; grabbing the basket just before we were too high to reach it. When we got high in the air I contently said, "It's a beautiful afternoon, don't you think so?"
Saphira said,"That it is."
"That must be the only happy thing you said since we left Alegasia." I mused. I heard a low rumbling sound and soon realized it was her laughing. I smiled and said, "Whining to laughing in a day . What would I do without you?"
It was about an hour or two until we arrived and at the base of the mountain. I could see smoke from a fire that the others had built. Saphira flew down and let the basket go when she was hovering just above the ground and then landed just beside it. Thorn did the same. Everyone grabbed tents and went to pitch them in their own place around the fire. None of us really spoke. We just pitched our tents, ate a meal and laid our bed rolls. After we finished we were all tired and we had a very long day and we know we have a even longer one ahead of us.
