it had been weeks since morgan and matty had talked. they did their normal routine of her sitting on her porch admiring him from afar and him making it seem like he hadn't noticed. it was frustrating her, because, how could you seem to connect so well with someone and then out of nowhere they stopped talking to you. it's like, "did i do something wrong?", "did i say something wrong?" and they're not there to tell you why they actually dismissed you from their life.

so that night, she decided she'd go out. she really didn't want to but, she did in hopes that matty was outside on his porch watching her leave. yes, it was a petty thing to do, but hey! what can you do about it? her friend liza came over an hour before to get ready, and morgan took the time to tell her friend what was going on.

"seems like a douche."

"but he's not."

"but what he did was pretty douchey"

morgan rolled her eyes as she finished up the winged liner.

"i want to go over and talk to him, but i can't. i won't"

"oh gosh, not the whole 'i have my pride' thing again."

"i never said-"

"but you were going to! listen, it's obvious that you like him, or really just want him around you. don't make this another adam thing again please."

morgan just nodded closing up the gel liner and going to the closet to grab her leather jacket. the rolled up mom jeans hugged her hips nicely, the maroon top showing just a pinch of skin, with the chelsea boots looked perfect together.

"are you keeping your curls out, or are you pulling it up into a high bun?" liza asked fixing up the curls on her head

"i think i'll keep them out today, now let's go." she replied practically dragging liza up and out the room.

when they stepped outside and through the gate matty was nowhere to be seen. his car, that morgan finally began to notice since a couple weeks ago was there in the driveway. she pushed the thought away, and got in the car and drove to the party all the way on the other side of town. and like every other party it was a mess, and ended up with morgan and liza cooped up in a corner laughing at the events unfolding in front of them.

it was about one am when everything around morgan stopped. her friends voice seemed to go mute, and the music disappeared and all she seen was the boy with the black hair. he didn't have to move it from in front of his face for her to know it was him, and before she could even fully realize what she was doing she was in front of him. he hadn't noticed her, probably because his nose was inches away from the table, and he was preoccupied by the lines in front of him.

he came up slowly, the green haired girl that was sat next to him blew smoke into the air and it seemed to wrap him up and matty was on another planet. he'd been avoiding morgan, and this? oh this is what was keeping him together in a way, and if he weren't high off the lines he just took, or so drunk he probably couldn't count to two he'd have thought that morgan's ghost were standing in front of him. he watched what he presumed to be her spirit scowling at him but it was the tug of his shirt, and the feeling of her underneath him when he tripped over the table bringing the two of them down that he knew it wasn't her spirit. it was actually her, and actual her was actually very pissed and he was very nervous about what he thought she had to be thinking.

it wasn't until they were both in the backseat of someone's car, trying to zone out the driver's loud singing that she finally spoke.

"what the hell is wrong with you?"

"me?"

"no, the ghost next to you."

"nothing. nothing is wrong with me."

"is this why you were avoiding me? have you been doing drugs? "

red seemed to be floating around the beautiful girl in front of him, and every word she spoke had this moss green tint to it and it made matty feel terrible. sick even. he closed his eyes, because maybe if he'd take a nap she wouldn't be upset and he wouldn't be so wrecked. her hand collided with his face with enough force that wasn't harmful but could keep him up for the next two weeks.

"you're not supposed to go to sleep. now answer me."

"i do it sometimes, i'm fine. believe me minnie."

"don't call me that,"

something in him broke. shattered, and blew out the window

"you have such an amazing mind. i see everything that you could possibly be when i look at you, and okay, you smoke weed - cool. but doing hard drugs? it fucking kills you, eats you away after it invites you to something you think is "just for fun." it's not you." her words were soft and her hand sent more reassurance through matty's veins than his mom's touch ever could.

"it's an escape." he choked out after ten minutes of just listening to drake sing about who know's what now.

"it doesn't have to be."

they were close. so close matty could feel her mint and liquor infused breath in his own lungs. they kissed; and matty felt all of the air in his lungs be replaced by something he wasn't used to. he liked it nonetheless, but, he couldn't help but be scared.
