"so minnie," matty spoke, leaning against the table of the chinese spot they were currently in "i told you about my mom, am i ever going to get something out of you? is your mom rude, how about your dad?"

morgan just shook her head focusing on the open sign in the window that flicked on and off. the little spot had those magical looking elephants planted on the counter, and there were a max of ten tables with four chairs set to each. the windows took up half the wall, and the constant hum of the drink fridge, and the asian woman singing along to the coldplay song coming through the speakers set the scene. the sun was due to set in the next hour so the two decided to walk to get food to feed their growling stomachs. i mean, it took them so long because all they actually did was play trivia on matty's phone, kissed a little, napped a little, kissed some more. they were comfortable, and they didn't actually need food today.

"let's go young one." matty called out already holding the door open for her watching as she walked slowly past him a small smile planted on her face

the two walked with their arms touching, until morgan worked up enough courage to wrap one arm with his, and hold his hand with her other. her heart was thumping and she prayed he couldn't feel it.

"my mom left me when i was six." morgan spoke up

matty's eyebrows joined together, trying to figure out how someone could give up the beautiful girl in front of him. she was everything, something terrible-

"she was, -or still is, i haven't talked to her in a while- on drugs. unlike other parents though, she knew she had a problem so she sent me to live with my aunt."

matty sat there, lips formed in a thin line. he wanted to say something so bad, but it would have been a silent promise, and matty wasn't good at keeping promises. so when they reached the next block he finally replied

"are you mad at her, for leaving you and all?" he asked and morgan shrugged "minnie" he warned

"not really. i could have had one of the drug mom's that use their kids to get drugs, or she could have kept me and hurt me. she actually thought about my well being, and as much as i'm upset that she'd hurt herself i'm glad she had the decency to let my aunt take me in."

before they knew, they were in front of matty's house, him leaving her outside to get a blanket so they could sit on the porch to eat. throughout half of their meal neither of them said anything, they just sat and listened to the few kids out and about, along with cars driving by.

"i'm sorry." matty huffed

"sorry for what?" morgan had sat her fork down, turning her full attention to matty

"the party, the drugs. sorry."

"don't be, it's fine. i mean, well, it's not fine because you shouldn't do it, but, don't worry about me."

"i never meant to get into that shit. it was pretty fucking cliche actually, the whole doing drugs out of rebel thoughts. it went from being a rebellious thing, to be something that actually helped me."

"how long have you been doing it?"

"about four years now."

morgan didn't say anything, and matty didn't like it.

"i don't want to say i'll help you, because, well, it's more of a self empowerment situation but i'll be here to support you." she smiled leaning in and planting a kiss on the corner of matty's mouth

if he wasn't mistaken, morgan's words were a slight promise and he hoped she didn't break them like he did.
