<Ten years ago>

Katelyn's POV:

They were getting closer. I could feel the footsteps becoming louder and louder. They had been chasing me for quite some time now, and I wasn't given even a second to rest and catch my breath. Lucky for me, their heavy armor and weapons slowed them down ever so slightly, and all my years of training paid off somewhat. Growing up in this town all of my life, I was used to the complicated roads and avoiding the countless people. I dove quickly in between narrow alleyways, trying to find an escape as my heartbeat thumped louder, harder, faster in my head. I prayed to Irene that I would make it. With no drinking water and no time to rest and catch my breath, escape seemed improbable.

Nearing the docks, I saw a ship getting ready to leave. To where, I had no idea. Slowly running out of energy, I realized this was my only option. It was now or never. Getting ready to sprint, I took a deep breath and ran with all my remaining energy. As they lifted the walkway connecting the boat to the docks, I closed my eyes and took a leap of faith.

Barely making it, I collapsed on the floor of the ship, breathing heavily. My mind was spinning and my vision blurred ever so slightly. The O'khasian guards that were chasing me got left behind, as they couldn't jump across. Having only one moment to acknowledge my escape, I looked for a hiding place aboard the ship, my chest still heaving with every breath. People were starting to notice the light-haired girl that had just collapsed on the deck of their ship, so I had to move fast. I ran down below deck, careful not to make any noises although I was incredibly thirsty and out of breath.

Since there were no hiding places on deck, I had to go below, even though I hated being cooped up on the lower deck, not being able to see the sky. It wasn't the best of circumstances, but I thanked Irene quietly; at least I wasn't seasick. As I quietly looked for a place to hide, I realized I wouldn't be able to breathe fresh air for a long time. If I was in a better situation, I would've loved this, since I've always loved the ocean with the wind in my hair, the fresh salty air, and adventure. Lost in thought, I stumbled and bumped into someone. So much for being sneaky, I grumbled. The surprising thing was, I recognized who I had bumped into.

"Katelyn?! What are you doing here," he asked. I sighed, a sigh of defeat. I had been caught.

A/N: Cliffhanger! Sorry I couldn't find any good music to go with this, if I do, I'll add it in.

I rewrote since a couple of people were confused about how the story works. For some reason, I put the words 'flashback' when I should have put <ten years later>. That is fixed now, hopefully it'll help with the confusion. The actual "story" part is telling what happened in the past, so the prologue is really only a prologue. Hopefully this clears up a few things!
