Katelyn's POV:The day had gone by so fast, especially after what happened this morning. The day was just spent relaxing in the house, the occasional sparring match, and just having fun. The day was almost over and the sun had now begun to set, the lapis colored sky beginning to turn a deep purple obsidian color.
((My attempt at a Minecraft metaphor XD I think I failed))
I noticed Travis sitting at his desk with his head buried in his arms. I debated whether or not I should walk up to him, but decided against it. It was probably memories of his mother again. Her sacrifice to protect the island had torn him apart, and he still hasn't gotten over it yet. It had made me sad too, to see another burdening and painful loss piled on his shoulders. A lot has happened these past weeks and the days just seem to fly past, everyday just repeat. It was great, but also strange to feel at peace this much. I had never been this relaxed in my life, it was sort of disturbing, like the calm before a storm.
I sighed as I walked over to the kitchen, opening the cabinet to see what food we had left. Thankfully, now that the Demon Warlock has been...um, stabilized more, food shipments have finally been able to arrive. Since his mom isn't around anymore, he's been doing most of the cooking, which has been nice. It allowed me to take a break from caring and protecting everyone around me.
I grabbed what was left of lunch from inside the cabinet and began to eat a short evening snack, even though it wasn't much since Travis had eaten like a pig this afternoon. I smiled at the thought as I sat down. "It's so nice to finally feel at peace without O'khasis always on my mind," I said, talking to myself like the idiot I was. But I had spoken too soon. The loud noise outside the wall was very familiar. Too familiar.
My hands tightened into fists and my shoulders began to stiffen. All the armor and defensiveness I had melted away froze itself around me, blocking me from outside, but still keeping the fear inside, despite my efforts to keep it out. I tried to reassure myself and say it wasn't possible, but it was clear. I couldn't deny and forget about it any longer.
Quietly, I stood up and pressed myself against the wall, trying to hear what was going on outside. It was just as I thought. Two guards were outside, talking, their voices muffled by their helmets. Leaning against the wall, and tilting my head to hear them better, it was unmistakable. My heart was thundering louder and harder by the second as I pressed into the conversation.
???#1: Civilians say that they saw a ice-blue haired girl running in this direction on the very same day we were shipwrecked here. It could be the same girl who was on the run in O'khasis.
???#2: Then what are we waiting for? We found her after all this searching, it's obviously her! We should capture her now. The civilians have given us enough information, they aren't of use either.
???#1: We have to wait. Let's observe a little. Play around a bit. Soon....
I was in shock after hearing those words. I turned away, heart still pumping fast, not wanting to hear anymore of the conversation. Staggering backwards, I drowned out the rest, tears in my eyes. My entire body was frozen in place with fear as I was just standing there, wishing it was only a nightmare, that I would wake up any second and then everything would disappear. I knew I should've left long ago. Now, I've pulled Travis into this as well. No doubt they would hurt him too, after all, it's not like they would just politely leave him alone and take me peacefully.
Taking a deep breath, I sat back down, leaning on the wall. This was my fault, might as well accept my fate. I mean, it's not me I'm worried about, it's Travis. I hate to think of all the things they could possibly do. I leaned back against the wall, squeezing the last of my tears out, still hoping I could just wake up. When I opened my eyes, I saw a bloodstained knife thrown into the wall, missing me barely. Attached to it was a note, clearly from the O'khasian guards. Carefully, I removed it from the knife and read the note.
"The wrath of O'khasis dominates." It read. Written in dark ink. As I looked closer however, I saw that it had a scarlet tint to it. A deep, pure, fresh red. Blood red.
((A/N: I have finally been able to write this chapter. Sorry it took so long, as you probably see, the beginning was written separately, and that's why it connects so bad with the rest of the chapter. Again, this is why I don't pre-write my chapters XD. Thankfully, I've been able to come up with this....thing of a chapter XD. Not my personal favorite, but I'll leave you guys to your own thoughts on this chapter. Be sure to comment and stuff! ~Katemeow))
