The midnight cries are the worst, they're the loudest and Kyungsoo can't seem to shush the little bundle in his arms, close to breaking down as he attempts croaking out a lullaby.

It's twenty minutes later before Miyoung shows signs of quieting down, large imploring eyes staring back at him, and he softly speaks in baby talk, cradles her back and forth before she breaks into a tiny smile.

He knows he's a mess but he must soldier on. For the tiny being, with her tiny fingers wrapped around his own, he must push himself to do better, be a better parent.

A tear slips out as he watches her fall asleep, his little angel with her soft breaths and he smiles, a final kiss on the forehead before reluctantly putting her back in her cot.

The night is silent and everything feels very pessimistic at the moment, but Kyungsoo has bills to pay and a daughter to raise, so he cuts the negative thinking and settles into bed, glances over at Miyoung's cot one last time ensuring she is fast asleep.

Then the lights go off, and Kyungsoo tries to catch some sleep before her next feeding, dreaming of a future he hopes he can give her.

Miyoung is one and a half when her mother visits for the first time. Kyungsoo feels his body shaking with angerafter he opens the door and finds Soojung standing there, strained smile and obvious tension in her bones.

He lets her in, makes a cup of coffee as they settle down on the sofa.

"What are you here for?" Kyungsoo mentally counts to ten, telling himself to keep calm, in case he loses it.

Which he can't, because Miyoung is sleeping and he's not going to allow her to wake up to adults screaming.

"I-I wanted to see Miyoung," Soojung's fingers twist around her coffee mug.

Kyungsoo cannot comprehend what she's saying. Because she fled the moment Miyoung was born, broke up with Kyungsoo and left him with their flesh and blood in his arms. Both father and daughter were helpless, as Soojung cried and cried about how she's not ready to do this, she still has dreams to chase, a normal life to lead.

And no matter how much Kyungsoo tried not to blame her, he can't. He has forgiven her for shattering their relationship, he's convinced she never quite loved him from the start anyway, they were such a mismatch, but that isn't even of any importance anymore.

What's important though, is a mother abandoning her own child, leaving heartlessly and that's what Kyungsoo solely blames her for. She is selfish through and through, and he starts seething at the thought, that his Miyoung has a mother but will never grow up with one.

"Why now? You didn't even want to be associated with her when you left," Kyungsoo swears if she's here to take Miyoung away he will put up a fight.

Somewhere deep inside he still clings on to hope, that Miyoung can have a mother who will care for her, one who will at least hang around attempting to be a part of her life. But he's dead wrong.

"I secured a contract with my agency. They're debuting me as a solo artiste, but they want me to break into the American market. I'm leaving Korea, Kyungsoo. I want to see our daughter at least once before that."

Our. The irony. She played no part in raising their child.

She wasn't there when Miyoung cried herself hoarse, or had her first fever and Kyungsoo was a wreck at the hospital. She wasn't there when Miyoung took her first steps or uttered her first words, laughter bubbling from her throat when Kyungsoo spun her around full of kisses and praise.
