"I thought libraries were supposed to be quiet", Kyungsoo hissed into his borrowed copy of 'Macbeth', muffling his complaints in the worn, yellowed pages. It was almost 1 am on a Saturday and usually the university library would be abandoned by this hour, spare for a handful of students desperately trying to pull all-nighters with veins burdened by caffeine. But finals were just around the corner and with its storeys of textbooks and cupboards of debatably free lined paper (which was mostly taken by students when the librarian went for bathroom breaks), the library had become a safety blanket for all pupils hoping to attain the grades they, or their families paying for the high tuition fees, deserved. Which is why Kyungsoo's nails had been carving imprints into his wooden desk for the past four hours. The noise in the large building was only rising as more and more students resorted to energy drinks to keep themselves awake – the side effects being hysteria and the exasperating need to tell everyone just how awake they felt.

The only thing keeping Kyungsoo in his seat was the presence of his roommate, Jongin, who had promised to stay with him as moral support. As a dance major, the younger's exam dates were different to most other degrees meaning instead of spending his past few weeks stress eating, he'd happily watched all of his friends' lives go to shit.

"That's it, Kyungsoo. Use the power of Shakespeare to drown out these fools", Jongin said, raising his cup of hot chocolate to his lips. When Kyungsoo looked up from the top of his book, he wasn't surprised to see his friend smirking.

They'd been roommates since their first day at the university, two years ago. Kyungsoo had to admit that at first, he'd been sure the other would be no more than a nuisance. Jongin's hair had been longer, cut into untamed waves which fell across his forehead and obscured most of his eyes. Not that it was his hair which had been a cause for a concern. No – it was his lack of clothing. Apparently the younger hadn't been aware that he would be sharing the dorm room with another human being and had immediately, without bothering to lock the door, slipped right into his birthday suit. The moment Kyungsoo laid eyes on the boy's naked form, he'd somehow managed to fall backwards into the door frame and practically knock himself out. The two finally introduced each other in the nurse's office, Jongin trying to apologise but only between snorts of laughter each time Kyungsoo's cheeks grew flushed with embarrassment.

Their friendship was strong from the start and with Kyungsoo knowing the exact details of Jongin's lower regions from day one, they hadn't been anything but open with one another. Most of the time.

Sighing, Kyungsoo closed the book only to be viciously attacked by a cloud of dust which had probably been gathering between the pages for over seventy years. He squeezed his eyes shut and groaned, letting his face fall onto the table with a thump. The dust tickled his skin but even moving his arms took extreme effort, lack of sleep finally catching up with him and pulling at his eyelids. He'd only made notes on three characters but there was no way he'd manage to work anymore that night. Not without pumping liquidised sugar into his veins.

He stirred when a warm hand ruffled his hair, Jongin's fingers lacing through the thick strands to rest at the back of his neck. He relaxed into the touch, exhaling heavily and momentarily forgetting about the upcoming exams and days of pressure. The hand on his head moved slowly down his nape, brushing across the fine hairs rising on his skin to curve towards the incline of his jaw. Kyungsoo lifted his head to watch the other whose fingers were still rested on his face, blinking into each other's eyes. Kyungsoo stayed frozen as Jongin hesitantly moved his thumb to sweep over his cheek, the touch leaving trails of heat behind with each movement.

"You had some dust on...on your cheek", Jongin said, clearing his throat and returning his hand to his now lukewarm hot chocolate. He looked down at the cup for a moment before suddenly rising out of his seat, the chair legs scraping loudly against the library floor and causing a few heads to turn in their direction. He winced at the sharp noise before gathering all of Kyungsoo's books into a neat stack and lifting them with both arms. "I think it's time we got back," he said, his face barely visible behind the texts, but Kyungsoo didn't miss the slight waver in his voice. Nodding, Kyungsoo stood, holding his arms out to take some of the load off Jongin but only being met with the taller's back as he made his way towards the library exit. Frowning, Kyungsoo tossed Jongin's discarded hot chocolate into the closest bin and followed him at a short distance outside into the brisk night air.
