I was about to give Aspen a grumpy remark when there was a loud commotion in the bushes a few yards away, and crows squawked as they all darted away in chaotic flapping.

My ears pricked and I stared intensely at the dark undergrowth on the other side of the river, sniffing and smelling for any danger.

A dark atmosphere descended on the island, and I looked up to see an overcast, thundering sky.

Is it just me or did it just get spookily dark and edgy around here? I asked and Aspen narrowed his eyes and lowered his head as he walked over to me, glaring into the trees.

I was confused as to what he was doing until he blocked my view from the trees, and I realised he was standing in a protective stance between me and the presence, making me flatten my ears.

I shoved him to the side and stepped towards where the sound had come from, feeling only slightly protected by the raging torrent of a river between us and it.

Ziathe Aspen snapped as he pulled on my neck fur and I gave him a look before observing the scene before me again.

I feel like something is watching us, but I can't see a pair of eyes standing out from all the twigs and leaves.

Aspen growled and bared his fangs, but after several moments of just silence I guessed it must of been the dark sky and edgy atmosphere that made us overreact.

Pftt it's nothing, you're overreacting I remarked as I turned round with my held held high but another loud snap sent me leaping up in the air and bolting off in the other direction.

Ziathe!!! I heard Aspen shout with his pawsteps right behind me, but I didn't slow and leaped so strongly I almost made it across the river, crashing down into the water and being able to jump out on the other side straight after.

Ziathe calm the fuck down Aspen growled as I continued my mad dash to safety, but the feeling of something running after me made me stubbornly keep on sprinting like a madman.

Oh wait..that was Aspen..

I skidded to a stop, only to be rammed into and squished a second later.

I ignored his groaning and looked back with pricked ears while panting heavily, my eyes sharp and alert for any pursuers.

You're an idiot, it was probably just a deer or something Aspen growled as he struggled to get off of me and I flattened my ears while glaring at the bushes.

I've seen bears around here, huge ones I defended seriously and he snorted before laughing.

Here I was worried about rogues and you were thinking it was a BEAR?! Hhahahaha I gave him a flat look before stamping down on his paw.

Ow!!

Aspen seemed to be nervously fidgeting as we both sat on a rock, letting our fur dry slowly in the cold overcast afternoon.

I had no idea why he was anxious, but I didn't give a shit, I was TIRED. I mean seriously. Staying in the same place for ages and not eating then suddenly running around like a maniac really makes you exhausted.

I sighed before resting my head in between my paws and closing my eyes, my ears flicking in multiple directions as I stayed alert.

Then suddenly, my eyes flew open and my ears flung forward as it hit me; he didn't have the cloth any more, he had no way to make me go back!
