Q1. What's the name of the book?
A. Learning the Ordinary.
Q2. What is the genre of your book?
A. Science Fiction/Adventure
Q3. What gave you the idea for your book?
A. Most of my ideas come from my dreams. This very idea happened to come from several dreams linking together--which is normal since I tend to have about four dreams a night. At first it was just a small boy sitting in a playground. Next, someone was messing with him and ended up bashing his head with a brick. I thought the little boy was dead until I saw his shadow rise to life. I freaked out the first time I saw it but loved the idea. Then I saw it had the ability to fight. Sadly my dream ended with the boys being rushed out of the playground via ambulances. From there I just deconstructed various Short Stories and novel ideas to get the 'feel' that I needed. Another plus is that Ezra has a lot of information from my own past.
Q4. Can you give a summary of your book?
A. Of course. In a nutshell, ( The year is unknown, but a Royal Family has taken dominance over the world. Technology has advanced to great heights but only in the realms of Military ware and Medical facilities. Everything has taken a step back in time to where normal people travel via stagecoaches, but the creatures of the world have evolved into deadly predators. To combat this, hundreds, or even thousands, of years of evolution have given the world what they call Powers. Seven unique races--including Human--roam the planet with their own set of heritages and abilities.
Sadly there is one who stands out from the crowd, and his name is Ezra. An enigma, he was born with the ability to solidify his shadow which tends to be overly protective. Growing up isolated, hated, and feared, all seems lost to have a normal life. Until one day of chance when he meets a traveling Performer named Jeszur. After learning that there was someone else who bared Ezra's cursed gift, Ezra sets off to find a mythical flying church known as the Church of Zelst.
But life isn't as simple as Ezra thought. Almost immediately, he begins to learn there are others things besides hatred and fear. Balancing his schedule of fighting and finding other Powers, Ezra ultimately travels the world in order to track down clues on where the Church of Zelst is located.
After months of travel and learning opportunities, Ezra and his team of friends finally find the Church of Zelst. It is here that all dreams come true once they unlock its power of the Gods. But things aren't as simple as they appear. Ezra will surely discover that even being normal has a price.)
Q5. Why do you believe it is a good read?
A. I truly believe this a good read because there is nothing else like this out there. Sure, Peter Pan basically invented the shadow having a life of its own. And building off of that, many other studios have done the same thing. But the shadow was only limited to the ground or walls. That's a boring cliche now.
There's also stories where people get superpowers or become inhuman and go on adventures. Buy why only one? Why can't there be multiple people, sharing the same goal, and travelling together? Why can't the world have superpowers? That way everyone's unique yet different at the same time. This makes sense to me which, hopefully, will move along to the readers. It's taking normal ideas, adding a unique reverse twist to them, and getting things you never imagined. Take Aldessa for example. She uses a bow and arrow. A well overused weapon in today's market. How can it be different? Let's make it out of glass, but let's go further. She can create her arrows right from the hand guard. We're still not pushing it enough. Let's have the bow grow and retract depending on what Aldessa wants. And for the last push, let's give her super speed. Now Aldessa can stand apart from all the other bow and arrow users out there these days. A completely unique character spawned from my imagination.
Q6. What would you like to say to those who read your book?
A. I would like to say that I honestly appreciate your reads with all my heart. Trying to become an Author with this type of story is difficult. Since there is nothing to compare it to, people are scared to take on the series. But if we can show them that Learning the Ordinary is an amazing story of Adventure and the will to make your dream true, I'm sure someone will rise to the challenge of taking on this project. Remember, if you like something or just want additional information, just leave a comment on the chapter and I'll be more than happy to let you know. C:
