I stepped back and wanted to put my hands over my ears. I couldn't listen to anymore of it. We had to save the world. I knew that but how could I? I built a wall of ice to separate me from anything going on in the world. I didn't want to deal with reality. Now? Now of all times? When I'm already in my tiny little barricade of ice?
Veronica saw the slight twitch in my fingers and legs. She walked over and whispered in my ear, "You're not the only one." She took the lead and told everyone to calm down. She was getting serious too. The situation had gotten way too far to call this a prank. For sure, someone was hunting us down.
Right now, keeping my walls up and sturdy is the best way to not lose control. Caring for everyone else is my main goal right now. I can't let anyone die. Not again.
"Ashton, morph into a dragon so we can get to the area safely. We either come up with a plan on Ashton's back or don't use one at all." I looked around seeing everyone nodding in agreement.
With that, we left, not knowing what to feel but caution. The words that the person uttered was engraved into our minds. I tried to push everthing to the back of my head, focusing on the current mission.
As soon as I got on Ashton's back, I accidentally looked down. My face was green and my cheeks were all puffed put. I probably looked like a frog. This was bad. If I continued, it would take a long time to get on my feet and be cautious. I hid my face in my soft, purple scarf to calm down.
"Let's just freestyle it. We'll waste energy trying to remember the plan. How much longer do we have?" I asked, still hiding behind my scarf.
"Just 10 more minutes. We can't go too fast or else we won't see if someone is trying to ambush us. Think things out first, Daughter of Satan. And you call me lazy when you say remembering is straining," Ashton said.
I got up and clenched my fists, ready to walk up to his head and start bashing him. "Hey Ashton, would you like to- Uughh." Both my fear of heights and motion sickness converged into a huge water balloon filled with green food coloring. It then felt as if both God and Satan were throwing it right in my face. I dropped back onto the ground in a kneeling position.
Amber patted my back giving me the "It's OK,child" look. Ethan had walked over with a flustered face. He knelt down and tapped my forehead. I no longer felt any pain throughout my entire body. No stomachaches or headaches.
"Don't get up or run too quickly 'cuz your gonna faint if you push yourself too much,"Ethan said trying not to look at me. His ears were all red and all I could think was 'AAAHH! Such a tsundere! Flipping pancakes, are my cheeks red?! Whatever, let's just blame the makeup. Wait... WHAT AM I EVEN THINKING OF RIGHT NOW? WE'RE ABOUT TO KILL PEOPLE! GET A GRIP, MARISSA!'
"Yeah...Alright. T-thank you," was all I could say. Thankfully enough, the dry smell of smoke set my mind back on the current mission. The city was already in ruins. It felt as if I was re-watching the movie "San Andreas". Except Ashton was our ride and I was with my friends. I saw a few people laying on the ground, motionless. Ashton swooped down and changed back into a human. I saw a shining light and ran over to one of the corpses. Blue metal? I looked closer and saw that there was a border of burns between the skin and the metal. Part of the skin started to make a sizzling noise and I heard small clanks and screeches. It was the metal that caused the sound and the burns.
"Oh my god..." I whispered in horror as I watch this poor man's body be devoured by a dark blue metal. My knees didn't last more for than five minutes. I started shivering and ran back to everyone else. As soon as I saw Leyna, I covered her eyes and ears. She gets horrified easily and I didn't want her to be in any more shock than she already was.
"Marissa... Thanks," she said in a shaken voice.
"Yeah, no prob. I'm covering your eyes not just because there is a bit of gore involved but also because the color of .... Something is hideous. Let's call it a growing accessory for now." I chuckled. I slowly let go of Leyna, letting her get used to the sight of smoke and fire.
Ethan crouched down and tried using his powers heal one of the victims. Nothing worked. The green light that usually glows out from his hand didn't shine. That light was no where to be seen. That gave me an idea to search for any survivors. I started to wander off into the distance. I had observed every square inch of each corpse but found out that it was the same as every other corpse. A dark blue metal would always burn the skin and let the metal slowly grow all over the body.
Not too far from where I was, I heard gunshots.
"ABILITIES? BRATS, COME OUT, COME OUT WHEREVER YOU ARE! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
*From this point on in the story, I am taking out Noah since he is an unneeded character.
