Le Valentine's One-shot

Your best friend had convinced you to go ice skating with her.

Maybe it was her eyes, but you couldn't say no.

It was probably denial, but you never told her that you had never gone before.

"What?" She shrieked as you wobbled to the bench and sat down. "You've never done this before?" She shook her head at you. "(y/n), I'm ashamed at you."

"I'm sorry, Villa, I just never thought about it."

"Come on, I'll help you!"

You looked at the skaters and winced as they fell down. "I'd really rather not."

Villa frowned. "Are you sure?"

You nodded. "Yeah. How about you skate with Steven? He's been looking at you from across the rink." You nudge her.

"(y/n), he's my boyfriend!"

"And it's Valentine's Day. Go."

Reluctantly, she went.

And it was fun to watch her and Steven skate. It really was.

IT WAS JUST SO FLIPPING COLD.

~POV Switch~

"Grill, you're telling me that you lived in Snowing all of your life, and never once went ice skating? What a nerd!!" Undyne heckled at me.

"undyne, he's made of fire."

Sans paid for the gang to go out, and I suppose it was to help pay his tab.

"GRILLBY! YOU SHOULD GO!! YOU'LL HAVE FUN!!!" I could stand Papyrus a little more than his older brother.

Nevertheless, I shook my head. I had hot chocolate, and for it being at an ice rink, it wasn't that bad.

"Ye-yeah, Sans p-paid for it, you m-might as well have some fun."

"guys. it's his choice."

I nodded and shoed them off.

"Fine, punk! But we're coming back soon! Fuhuhuhuhuh!!" Undyne ran onto the ice and promptly fell over, laughing all the way.

"I-I better go help her." Alyphs dashed out to the ice as well, and helped Undyne up.

Both Sans and Papyrus left, and fell over a few times.

Toriel and Frisk didn't come, they were making a surprise dinner for us all. I had helped pick out the recipes.

I found myself wanting to go on the ice, but didn't.

I just sat down, drinking my hot chocolate.

~POV Switch~

Villa grabbed my hand and pulled me up from where I was dozing.

"Come on, lazybones! We've been here for about an hour, and you haven't moved!

"Villa, I'm fine. It's okay!"

"No, (y/n), it's not okay! I spent all of yesterday thinking of what to do for the three of us, and you come here and sleep!"

You look down. "Vil, I'm sorry. I have no balance."

She smiled. "If you don't want to skate with me and Steven, how about you ask that guy over there?" She pointed to a man made out of fire.

"I don't even know him. You want me to ask him to skate with me?"

She grinned wickedly. "You have to admit, he's -"

"If you say hot, I'll rip your throat out." You interrupted.

"Go!"

You walked near the guy, glaring at Villa the entire way.

He didn't even look up.

"Howdy," you said. "Can I sit here?" You pointed to the spot next to him.

He nodded.

"Not much of a talker, huh?"

He shook his head.

Man, you were really scraping the bottom of the barrel with him.

"Do you know anyone out there?"

He pointed to a few monsters, who were making fools out of themselves.

"Looks like they're having a good time."

One of the monsters, a short skeleton, flew out of the rink.

"ow! undyne, that hurt!" He took a few steps, then collapsed on the bench near the fire guy.

"did ya see that? man, i'm having a bad time with these skates." He looked over at you. "grill, who's this?"

"Uh, I'm (y/n). His name is seriously Grill?"

"(y/n)? what does the y and n stand for? yellow noodles?"

"Y and N? My name is (y/n). And you're not answering my question."

"right. y n. oh, grill is short for grillby. he's refusing to skate because he has no balance."

"Are you sure it's not because he's made of fire?"

"well, that too."

Grillby stood up and offered you his hand.

"oooh. he's asking you to skate."

You laugh. "Um, I have no balance either... "

Grillby spoke. "That's okay."

You smiled. "Okay then?" You took his hand and started to slide on the ice.

Almost immediately, you fell.

But soon, both of you were - well, not flying - gliding across the ice like drunk horses.

Grillby whispered something and it made you think.

"In another story, this would be different."
