The blackness is powerful and quite hard to overcome. The constant pressure that it pushes down on me is causing my vision to become out of focus and blurry. Every so often twisted shapes pass through my line of sight, drifting around in clusters like white clouds in a vibrant blue sky. The shapes are intricate but unrecognisable, mysterious yet mystical.

But the twisted shapes are fading now. The black and grey whirls of endless mist and gloom are beginning to lighten into pale creams and brilliant whites. There is an extreme white brightness that is continually growing stronger and brighter until it covers my whole range of vision. The jagged shapes and colours of metal structures are forming in front of this white brilliance.

I see a black swirl of colour and another brown one about a metre from the black one. The shapes begin to squash in together, forming the faint but visible lines of two worried faces.

I opened my eye a crack, so that only a slit of light could be let in. The light was overwhelmingly powerful but after a few seconds of blinding pain it began to dim.

“Dana?” Mikey’s face materialized before me eerily. “Dana?” He said again, and I could hear the worry in his voice.

“Mikes.” I croaked quietly, surprised that my vocal chords were actually operational.

“Dana! You’re okay!” he said again, a little too loudly, so that his cheerful voice rang through my ears.

“I guess. What happened?” I asked worriedly.

“You passed out while you were at dialysis. I thought you’d died Dana. But you didn’t. Never do that to me again please!” Mikey said bravely and searched for my hand, grasping it firmly once he had.

“I’m sorry Mikey. But I didn’t choose to pass out did I?” I replied with a smirk. Then with perfect timing the white door of the hospital room opened and a small, brown haired woman slipped in wearing a white nurse’s gown and holding a large wooden clipboard.

“Miss Green, I see you’re awake. You gave us quite a scare.” She said timidly, walking over to the bed.

“What happened?” I asked, despite the fact that I’d already asked Mikey.

“Well you blacked out during your dialysis treatment. We did a few scans.” She said, a slight shake it her voice.]

“Well…” Me and Mikey said it unison.

“Urm. Well it seems that your liver has begun to reject the dialysis more than we would have hoped. We think that in you will have to reduce your dialysis treatment to only once a week.” She said.

“What does this mean for me?” I asked. This didn’t seem good.

“Well you’re health and condition will probably deteriorate slightly with the decreased dialysis treatment. And if you want to fix this problem you will need to get a transplant within the next few years. It’s not too major. Just not don’t have too much salt or alcohol, especially alcohol.” She replied, grimacing, while scribbling onto the clipboard.

“Okay.” I replied slowly, a look of shock on my face as soon I saw the nurse turn with a small smile and walk out of the room.

“Well that’s okay? Right Dana?” Mikey said, squeezing my hand as he noticed my facial expression.

“Yeah it’s fine Mikes.” I said sighing. “I’ll just die in two to three years not four to five years. Great.” I said jokingly.

He looked at me seriously. “Don’t say that Dana!” He complained.

“Can’t exactly not say it.” I replied smugly. “How long was I out for?” I asked.

“Since yesterday. It’s Monday.” Mikey said. “It’s actually nearly Tuesday.” He said laughing and looking at his watch.
