Mikey and I stuck together at school. We saw the choppy seas of High School as one huge nightmare which we just had to wake up from.

My old group of friends had started to give up on harassing me, they had realised that I really didn't care what they had to say. They started to turn their attention towards Mikey, which made me really upset.

They'd take his books, and throw pieces of paper and other stationary items at him in classes.

The boys in the group to beat him up in the changing room before sport class. He'd walk into the sports hall, limping or with a split lip and round blobs on his head where the beginning of bruises were forming.

He'd put on a brave face for me and carry on as normal. It was one of those days. He walked out clutching his jaw.

"Hi Dana." He said bravely, his hand was covered in blood.

"Hay Mikey. Are you okay?" I asked, knowing his answer and knowing the real answer.

"Yep its cool." He said through gritted teeth. Then he walked to where the teacher was calling his name and pointing, giving me a nervous smile.

After class he came out looking a lot better, he had washed his face removing the blood.

"I gotta' go see Mrs Bentham. I need to hand in my essay." He said smiling. "Meet me in the library in 20 minutes?"

"Sure, see you then." I said smiling, but looking worriedly at his face. I got up from the window ledge and headed to the library to wait for Mikey.

I got a table by the window and sat there, fumbling in my pocket for my earphones. I heard some muffled talking and strained to hear it.

"Oi, freak." A rough low voice bellowed. Obviously a jock, judging by the tone but I couldn't quite see anything, there was a book shelf in the way.

"Oi I'm talking to you freak." He said again. I heard a rough knock and some of the books from the book case bloking my view fell off.

"What?" A gentler and softer voice said, still male. "What do you want?" He sighed.

"Don't sigh at me you freak. You're lucky I havn't beaten you black and blue. Like I did your stupid freak brother." He chuckled and I heard a kicking noise then a crupling sound. The other boy had fallen to the floor with a thud.

"Hahaha. That's right, you're where you belong. On the floor, below me." He said, and a few other voices jeered.

"Shut up." The other boy said. More timidly and gasping for breath from being kicked to the ground. I recognised that 'shut up.' Then I realised it must be Gerard. Mikey had been beaten up and 'freak' was both of their nicknames at school.

I felt a wash of guilt fall over me.

"What did you say?" The Jock shouted loudly and kicked Gerard down again. "Wait what do we have here?" The Jock exclaimed, picking up something. "Very nice freak. But I think I can improve this." he said through a sneer and I heard a ripping noise.

"Bye freak, see you later." He said and walked off followed by some others. I got up and ran round the book shelf to see Gerard slumped on the floor. An art folder was next to him, sketches and paintings were strewn everywhere. There was the one that had made the ripping noise, on the floor between me and Gerard. It was ripped into two parts. The portrait of two boys, it looked like him and Mikey, ruined.

"Gerard?" I asked nervously.

"How much?" He asked bluntly.

"How much what?" I replied confused.

"How much did you hear?"

"All of it." I gulped.

"Great." He spat. His eyes red and deep. He stood up and collected up his art. He stopped when he got to the portrait of him and Mikey. He looked up at me. "Is it true?" He swallowed. "They did that to Mikey?"

"Yes. Nearly every sport class they do." I spat. He looked like he was about to cry. Then he picked it up and walked passed me.

"I'm sorry." I said quickly, while he could still here me.

"Don't be" He said calmly. "I'm used to it." Then he walked out of the library.

I began to feel really sorry Gerard. Yes he was a dick but no one deserves what he goes through.

"Hay." I turned to see Mikey. "You okay?" He asked.

"Yep." I said quietly, deciding not to tell him about Gerard. "Lets go read some comics." I said and Mikey beamed.

The poor Way brothers I thought to myself as I looked at Mikey reading through his comic happily, they didn't deserve waht they got. Gerard didn't and Mikey deserved it even less. High School really is messed up.
