“Well I, uhhr, I…” Gerard stuttered as I took one more step into the room. “I can explain?” He finally spits out.

“You better start explaining God damn quickly or I swear I will ram my-“ I started, raising my fist at him, attempting to be threatening.

“Are you mad?” He asked shyly.

“Mad? Of course not Gee!” I saw him exhale and saw him flash his teeth at me in relief. “No, no. Violence is just my reaction when I’m shocked or overwhelmed.” I explained quickly. “And I am shocked and overwhelmed. This is beautiful Gee.” I gushed, taking another step into the room.

“Thanks Dana.” He smiled broadly, which soon turned into a smirk as he saw me looking around in awe, taking in the details of my kitchen.

The lights had been dimmed and an assortment of candles had been scattered around the room and were glowing warmly, the flames dancing together in the stillness room. A section of the normal wooden flooring between the main kitchen and the dining table had been covered by a tartan patterned blanket. On the blanket sat a closed wicker hamper beside two overly fluffy cushions and a flower vase in the centre of the rug, with a bunch of white tipped pink lilies placed carefully in it. Around the perimeter of the blanket, rose petals and sequins had been sprinkled so that the whole room seemed to glisten and shine in the candle light. It truly was beautiful. What really grabbed my attention was large flat package lying next to the hamper. It was wrapped in lilac tissue paper and a ribbon had been tied in a neat bow around it so that it looked like the perfect gift. The shape of it was odd: it was large but flat and my mind couldn’t register with anything of that shape.

After I had finished staring, I turned to him. “This is serious beautiful, thank you Gee.” I cried, flinging my arms around him.

“T’is no problem.” He shrugged.

“But how did you do it? I’ve been with you all evening.” I stepped back and crossed my arms.

“I have my ways.” He winked. “They come in Mikey and Frank shapes. I let Mikey and Frank borrow any comics they want from my extensive collection for the weekend, if they helped me set this up as I instructed. They did a perfect job.”

“But so did you.” I insisted. “So are you going to let me open that bloody hamper? I want to know what’s in it.” I pleaded.

“But of course.” He smiled. “You kinda’ need to open it for the night to continue as I have planned.”

I wasted no time in leaping over a few stray candles launching myself towards the hamper. I landed awkwardly on my side, hissing when I felt a stabbing pain in my abdomen. I soon felt arms around me.

“That was silly of you Dana.” He remarked with a giggle. “Are you okay?” He asked worry creasing my brow when he saw my pained expression. I nodded and he pulled me up to a sitting position and pushed the hamper towards me. “Open it, open it.” He urged, his voice laced with excitement.

“Calm down, you sound like Frank.” I exclaimed, patting his head and laughing when he scowled and fixed his hair afterwards.

I opened the hamper slowly. Inside were two wine glasses accompanied by a bottle of sparkling apple juice. I smiled, knowing Gerard had remembered that I couldn’t drink. There was a dish, which was occupied by a lemon cheese cake, which looked home baked and delicious. There was also a bag of pop corn and a movie, Friday the 13th strapped into the hamper on the other side.

“I thought we could watch a move later?” Gerard explained as I took everything out of the hamper and placed them on the blanket. “Is that okay?”
