A young girl, of the age five, ran towards the house, laughing joyfully. Her brother two years older than her chased her inside, laughing loudly.

The children dropped off their bags in the doorway, ignoring their mothers scolding for running in the house.

The young boy led his little sister outside, bringing her to the shed to help brush the horses.

They had just reached the shed when the sky darkened. Both siblings looked at the sky when the first rock struck. The meteor struck 20 feet ahead of them.

The young girl screamed in terror, her brothers screams joining her's. Both siblings tried to get into the shed, but another rock smashed through the roof, making both siblings fly backwards.

The brother stood, screaming his sisters name. "Susan! Susan!"

The brother could barely hear his own voice over the ringing in his ears. How was his little sister suppose to hear him?

"Logan?!?" He turned around and saw his mother running toward him.

The ground shook again, when another meteor struck the earth. Logan ran toward his mother, praying that he wouldn't get smashed by a huge rock.

Logan reached his mother and flung his arms around her. "Quick, into the cellar!" She shouted over the crashing.

They quickly climbed down into the cellar, where they kept all the canned food, fruits and vegetables.

Dust drifted down from the ceiling every time a meteor hit the earth. "But Mama, what about Susan?"

His mother walked up to her son and hugged him close. "Your father went to find her. I'm sure they're just fine. They'll be here any minute."

Logan nodded and buried his head into his mothers dress. 10 minutes later, a pounding on the door, caused both mother and son to jump.

The mother stood and raced toward the door, ignoring the rumbling from above. As soon as she opened the door, their father rushed into the room.

In his arms was little Susan, Susan's mother helped lay her onto the ground. Blood leaked from Susan's head and a long scratch ran down her leg.

"Oh my baby girl!" Her mother cried, when she saw the shape her daughter was in.

Logan watched Papa hug Mama. Confused Logan walked up to his parents. "Mama, Papa? What's wrong? What's happening?"

His mother sniffled and pulled away from Papa. "I don't know, sweetheart, b-but everything will be alright."

Their father gazed sadly at their daughter. Her chest rose and fell faintly, but he was positive she wasn't going to survive. Not with that wound on her head and not without being able to get to a doctor.

Terror squeezed the man, he was going to lose his only daughter, and he couldn't even mourn his loss. He had to be strong for his family.

Trying to get Susan as comfortable as possible, he listened to his wife sing Jimmy to sleep.

Once Logan fell asleep, his wife looked up. "Do you think this is it, Charles? The end of the world?" Her voice cracking the end of the sentence.

"I don't know, Mary, I don't know." Her husband answered.

Mary brushed Logan's brown hair from his face. "Everything will be just fine." She whispered, trying to convince herself more then anyone.

A week later the rumbling, and shaking finally stopped. The jars and canned food were almost gone. The family waited an hour, and when the rumbling didn't start up again Charles went to go check it out.

Charles opened the cellar door, a very cool breeze hit his face. Outside the world was dark, there was no moon, or stars in the sky.

Charles frowned, before going back inside and telling his wife. "It's dark outside, must be night time."

Mary nodded. After hours of waiting and waiting, when the sky never lightened and the sun never rose, the panic started to rise.

Finally they decided to take everything they had left and leave. Maybe there was a better part, maybe there was still a place where the sun rose.

Mary cried over her little girl.
"Mary, we both know she'll never make the ride. I don't even think she'll live past tonight," Charles told his wife, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Little Susan had only woken up twice during the whole week in the cellar, her wounds had become infected and her breathing shallow.

Susan's mother, kissed her baby's head. "I'm so sorry. I love you, very much." She told Susan, before letting her husband drag her away.

Hours later, little Susan awoke, crying for her mother, who never came. Crying for her father who also never came.

Her head burned and her leg screamed in pain, but she was also so cold. Where was her Mommy? Why wasn't she helping her?

Suddenly a women's head appeared above her. The women bent down and picked Susan up. "I'll get you some help, darling, you just hang in there, you here?"

Susan's crying, turned to whimpers as she drank in the warmth. "Mommy." Susan muttered, hiding her face I the women's arm, then she blacked out.
