Logan walked down the street, his hand was beginning to heal, but slowly. Logan's injury had caused Mama to freak out at him when he got home from his last job.
She reamed on about how he needed to be more careful. Then she went as low as saying that she couldn't afford Logan getting laid off, because of an injury.
After Mama said that, Logan snapped at her and told her that if this was such a problem then she could start helping out by getting a job or helping out around the farm.
Before Mama could respond Logan has stormed out of the house and that was how he ended up here, in a tavern, stirring his coffee.
Logan had thought about sneaking over to Marita's and ranting to her about his Mama, and then spend the rest of the night relaxing with her. Logan had pushed the thought aside though, she was probably busy with her father.
Logan glanced up at two tough looking guys walked into the tavern. They sat in the booth next to him, waiting for the waitress to come and take their orders.
Logan couldn't help, but over hear their conversation. "We're almost to the Darkness, Carl, can't you feel it?"
He could almost hear the vicious grin on the other man's face. "Yes, those slimy aliens won't even see us coming!"
"Are you sure we shouldn't wait for back up? I mean having a few hunters to back us up if something goes wrong would be better, wouldn't it?" The other man asked.
"I told you, Jack, I already called them, and the longer we wait the more dangerous those aliens get," Carl answered.
Their conversation dropped as the waitress came up. Logan's mind raced with many thoughts. The Darkness? Did the mean the Dark Spot? And what did they mean by aliens? Was that guy that saved his life an alien?
Logan waited for them to start talking again, but when they didn't Logan quickly finished his coffee and left the cafe.

Logan stood a ways behind the two men. Carl and Jack had went deep into the forest heading straight for the Dark Spot.Logan had his bow strapped across his back and, his hunting knife stashed in his boot. He knew this was a risk to follow these men, especially with his injured hand, but he was to curious.
The two men stopped and faced each other. They were at the edge of the Dark Spot, even though it was night time, it was still obvious where the border was.
A darkness came from the place. The wind spoke of cold, fear, and death. Logan steeled himself and brought his attention back to Carl and Jack.
They finished their discussions, seeming to come to a decision and turned, facing the direction where Logan was hiding. "You can come out now," Carl called.
Logan drew back slightly shocked. They knew he was here?! He sat there, stupidly wondering if they were talking to someone else.
"Come on, don't be shy," Jack called to Logan.
Logan hesitated a second longer before walking into the clearing, bow strung and ready.
Both Carl and Jack drew back slightly taking Logan in, trying to find his weaknesses. "Your the kid from the tavern!" Jack exclaimed.
Carl elbowed Jack in the side and faced Logan. "What are you doing following us, kid?"
Logan flicked his gaze from Carl to Jack, debating on what to say, instead of answering he decided to ask them a question. "What are you doing? It's illegal to go into the Dark Spot."
Carl and Jack shared a glance and faced Logan again. "What are you some kind of sheriff?" Carl snarled.
"Answer my question! Who even are you?!" Logan snapped.
Jack raised his eyebrow, making Logan envious cause he had always wanted to be able to do that.
"Ok-"
"Jack!" Carl cut off Jack, "think of the consequences, he probably barely even knows how to use that bow of his!"
Logan quickly released his arrow and reloaded in a quick second. The arrow landed three inches away from Carl's face, buried in a tree.
Logan could've normally shot closer, but because of his injured hand he didn't want to take that risk.
A strange sound erupted from Jack, it took Logan a moment to realize it was laughter. "I guess he proved he could use that bow of his!"
Carl glared at Jack and ripped the arrow of the trunk. "Fine, tell him! It's your life!"
Jack smiled and faced Logan. "We're hunters, we've traveled the world, the universe actually. You see we've traveled to other planets and dimensions."
"Ok..." Logan prodded, anxious to hear what he has to say, but also unsure if these dudes were insane.
"We kill things, unnatural things. We kill things that aren't from this world, monsters," Jack continued.
Logan narrowed his eyes, his injured hand was starting to ache from holding his bow string back, but he was determined not to show any weaknesses. They were definitely crazy.
Jack continued, "These monsters usually live in what you call the Dark Spot, they call it the Darkness."
"And you're going to this Darkness and killing these things?"
"Yes, exactly!" Carl exclaimed clearly impatient. "Now would you please lower the bow!"
Logan flicked his eyes to Jack and Carl, before slowly lowering his bow, but kept the arrow out.
"Wow, that was easy normally we get told we're crazy," Jack muttered.
"I do think you are crazy, but I've seen things around the border. No one comes out this way, not often anyway," Logan told them.
"What's your name, kid?" Carl asked, his voice less harsh then before.
Logan hesitated, before telling them. "Logan, Logan Hansen."
"Well Logan Hansen, Welcome to the life of a hunter, if you wish to join!" Carl said holding out his hand, while Jack shrugged his shoulders.
Logan hesitated before fitting his hand in Carl's, and shaking it. "When do we start?"

As it turns out, they started right away. Hunting as it turns out as a kind of learn on the way job.Logan didn't know if he believed everything Carl and Jack told him, but he really wanted was to see what lived in this Darkness.
As Logan entered the border, Logan a sudden shiver ran down his spine.
Carl slapped Logan on the back, "It all begins here, kid!"
Carl and Jack walked ahead of Logan, takings a deep breath Logan followed shortly behind them. If they are crazy Logan would have to keep an eye out for them.
