Logan snuck into the house, trying to get up to his room, before either of his parents noticed.
He entered the kitchen, glancing around. "Logan, we need to talk," Papa said, turning around in his seat.
Logan sighed, but walked forward and sat across from Papa. "Look, I'm sorry I said what I said, and I'm sorry for storming out of the house."
Papa shook his head, and looked down at the table slightly. "No, you're right. I-I never really thought about how all this effected you."
"Why do you think I'm always working? I mean, jeeze, I'm not stupid, I know how bad things are!" Logan exclaimed.
"I know, I know, I just, I was in denial! I wanted to think that you thought we had the perfect life here. I wanted to think I was doing my very best for you!" Papa exclaimed running his hands through his hair. "And I'm sorry, I'm sorry it's not perfect."
Logan looked at his father, seeing him this torn up hurt Logan deeply. Papa was always tough no matter what. "I-It's ok, I know it's not your fault, I mean you're working harder then me and most think I work too hard."
Papa snorted, and shook his head. "You were always such a sweet boy."
Logan smiled slightly. "Yeah, well, I'm beat, wet, and not feeling very well, so I'm gunna go to bed."
Papa looked up worriedly. "I hope you feel better, night, son."
"Night," Logan called walking up the stairs. Logan was actually feeling just fine, but he had agreed to meet Carl and Jack tonight.
Logan walked into his room, closing the door behind him. Turning around and facing his bed he was jumped in surprise, seeing Marita sitting there looking out the window.
"Marita?! You startled me! What are you doing here?" Logan asked, concern replacing the shock.
Marita tilted her head, the shadow from the window still blocking her face. "I'm sorry for startling you, dear, b-but I just had to see you."
Logan noticed how her voice cracked, and was rusty like she had been crying. "Of course, what's wrong?" Logan asked walking over to the bed and sat down.
Marita turned and looked at him, The first thing Logan noticed was that her lip was split, and there was a nasty dark blue and black bruise under her cheek bone. "Oh My Goodness!" Logan breathed out an exclamation.
Marita flinched at his reaction and looked at the floor, turning the bruised side of her face away from him. "I know, I-I know," She whispered.
"Who did this to you?!" Logan growled, his hands clenching into fists.
"M-My father-"
"What?!" Logan almost shouted, standing up, rage blinding him.
"Shh!!!" Marita hushed him, leaping forward, grabbing his arm. "Don't! Your parents can't know I'm here!!"
Logan faced Marita, steaming, anger boiling. "I'm gunna kill him!" Logan growled.
"No, no, ok, just calm down ok? Take a deep breath," Marita said gently, taking Logan's hands in her own. When Logan didn't listen, Marita squeezed his hands. "Log, please."
"Ok, ok," Logan relented, taking a deep breath, and forcing his hands out of there fists.
"Thank you," Marita said softly.
Logan sighed and touched her chin, tilting her head to the side. Logan fingered the bruise gently.
"Is it bad?" Marita asked, quietly, stiffening when he touched it.
