Tyler's P.O.V.
With my back still touching the door, I put my face in my palms and shake my head. I couldn't believe that was actually happening. The guy that I just started to like, living just a few doors down from me. Screw everything, was my initial reaction. And then something changed my mind. I reminded myself of what happened last time I hid from my feelings. I used to be into girls, I used to have a crush on my best friend, Ashley Conners. Long story short, she figured it out and I was humiliated. At least she forgave me and now we're just as close as ever.
I took my iPhone 5C from the pocket of my jeans and dialled her number. I waited for her to pick up. She never picked up these days. She was always busy. But today was a bit different. After the phone rang twice, I heard her voice cut in.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Ashley! It's Tyler." I said, surprise showing in my voice.
"Oh, Tyler! How's it going?" She asked. We haven't spoken for a couple months, so she obviously sounded pretty glad to hear from me.
"I need a bit of help."
"Okay, what is it this time?" I've asked her for advice multiple times. She wasn't surprised that was the reason I called her.
"I kind of fell for a guy that I'm pretty sure is straight. And I'm not." I admitted. I awaited her reply.
She was silent for a few minutes before finally coming up with a solution to my problem. "How about you try and get to know him and then maybe tell him how you feel when the time is right?"
I nodded at her idea, thinking it could possibly solve my dilemma. "Alright, thanks so much, Ash. I hope we can talk more!"
"I'll try. See you around!"
"Bye." And with that, I took my phone from my ear and pressed the red button to end the call. Ashley had always given me the best advice on these types of things. She was actually the first person I came out to. I loved her. Just as a friend, of course. Actually, come to think of it, I thought of her as a sister. Her and her older sister, Mackenzie.
I walked over to my twin bed and lay down on my side. I fell asleep slowly with my favourite song playing in my head.
'Some legends untold, some turned to dust or to gold, but you will remember me, remember me for centuries. Just one mistake is all it will take, go down in history, remember me for centuries.'
The next morning, I woke up as usual, got dressed, brushed my teeth, ate a breakfast of eggs and toast with a cup of black coffee, and headed out the door. Today was the day I was going to introduce myself to him. To the guy from the bar.
I marched confidently to his door and knocked three times. I heard lazy footsteps coming to answer it, and immediately regretted coming so early. The knob twisted and a man with brightly coloured hair and only plaid sweatpants was standing there in front of me. I put a friendly smile on my face and held out my hand.
"I'm Tyler. And I take it you're quite new here. Sorry if you've been here a while, I don't get out too much." I said in a long blurb, my words running together.
He took my hand and shook it briefly, before I put mine down. "Joshua. But most people call me Josh. I've only been here a couple weeks, maybe three. Nice to meet you." He looked at me for a moment, scanning me up and down. "Say, aren't you that guy from the bar last night?"
I froze and nodded my head up and down a few times. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was you I saw there talking to that redhead. Who exactly is she to you?" I asked, curious to know what she was doing talking to him.
He shrugged. "Well, if you're that concerned about my life, then she's an ex of mine. She keeps calling me and I absolutely hate it. Why?"
My heart dropped to my feet at his question. I didn't know how to answer this! 'Oh yeah, I just think you're cute and I want to go out with you.' No! "Uh...I don't know. I just want to get to know you better, I guess." I stammered like an idiot.
Well, that was great. Now he thinks I'm a creep. My internal voice said to me. No, I wasn't crazy. I was perfectly normal. I just sometimes talked to myself, that's all.
"Well, it was a pleasure, Tyler, but I should be getting ready for work now. I have to get to Artie's Restaurant in about half an hour." He said, a smile curving his lips upwards.
"It was nice talking to you, Joshua." I replied, and he closed the door softly.
I walked back to my apartment with a smile on my face and a spring in my step. I was glad to know that I just made the next step in Ashley's plan.
I made my way back into the dark walls of my room and turned on the TV to Much Music. That was my everyday life.
