"You come here often?" Rian teased lightly. She was more concerned than anything but it was natural to try to make light of a situation that seemed even faintly serious. That's just who she was. It was a curse.

"No I-" he scratched up and down his arm in a sort of shaky, fidgety kind of way that made her narrow her eyes in curiosity.

"You okay?" She asked.

"Yeah, no, I'm just cold, you know?" The words flew out of his mouth as he flipped his hat backwards and pressed down on it several times. She didn't understand most of what he was saying. It was all a massive garble of unintelligible mumbles and hand movements. She took this time instead to examine him. He looked terrible. His jeans were filthy and there was something troubling about his quick pace, back and forth, outside of her window. The way his baggy sweater hung off his body; the way he sweat, like he had just run about 10 miles nonstop; his speech. It was in his gait.

In his eyes.

"Cain," she interrupted.

"Yeah?"

"Why are you really out here?"

He looked down so quick it almost hurt to witness.

"I sleep here."

"So, I'm in class right? And this guy leans over to this other guy and says, 'You want some ecstasy?' And the guys like 'hell yeah', so he hands him a tablet. Ten minutes later, he's all giggly and stupid and says 'Duuuuuuude I'm totally feeling it!'"

"Who does ecstasy in a classroom?"

"Oh, it wasn't ecstasy."

"What was it?"

"Sweet tart."

They burst out laughing at their corner booth. A few customers glanced their way, some shushing, others returning to their meals.

"When's Rian going to get here, anyway? I texted her which Denny's we were at."

"When did you send it?" Channa asked.

"Five minutes after I called."

"She's probably still driving and hasn't looked at it yet." Sophie added, twirling her straw in her soda.

"Maybe. I wish I could call my baby Justin though."

"Why can't you?"

"My phones dead now."

"You didn't bring your charger?"

"Nope. Left it in Rigay's room."

"Oh."

"Who's Justin, Miranda?" Sophie grinned, wiggling her eyebrows.

"Justin. As in Justin Bieber-my husband."

Channa spit out her Mountain Dew all over the table. Thank god, they hadn't ordered yet.

"Bullshit! I'm sorry but I call bullshit."

"Seriously! We're engaged so we're like practically married. He gimme dat Bieberconda all night if you know what I mean?" She hummed in a strangely humorous tone. Sophie wheezed. Channa didn't.

"I don't buy it. I need proof."

"I'd show you but like I said, phones dead."

"Mhm sure." Channa wasn't convinced one bit. She dialed up Rian's number and hoped her bestie would pick up.

"...leave a message."

"Damn it. Nips, where are you? Are you alright? Everybody already has their drinks."

"Hurry up, little bitch. I'm hungry!"

Channa narrowed her eyes at Miranda.

"Your cousins getting impatient, so hurry. We're ordering without you if you don't show up in 5. Just a heads up. Call me back if you can. Bye."
