Capítulo DiecisieteFive, twenty five, thirty, forty, fifty... It was just enough for half a gram and a Monster. It had felt too long since his last hit of crystal. And if he was being completely truthful, he couldn't even really remember how long that actually was. The days all seemed to run together. He wanted this.
He needed this.
Cain placed Rian's wallet back in her purse and took her phone into his hand. His fingers shook as he dialed the number of his usual dealer.

"Be honest. How did I do?"
"Lizzie..."
"I'm serious! Honestly."
"Okay, well honestly..." Channa inhaled, turning her head enough to meet Lizzie's eyes. "You're my everything. And what you just did for me tonight only validates that truth even more."
Lizzie brought herself closer to Channa, draping a sweaty arm across Channa's bare breasts, and laid there, enjoying the interesting temperature contrast of Channa's soft skin. "I love you."
"I love you too."

Miranda's light snoring travelled through the hall as Cain made his way down it like a sneaky rat headed for scraps. Lucky for him, Miranda had passed out early watching Netflix. At least it was easier to leave the apartment now, Cain was already in a hurry. The guy was going to be there at the corner soon with his stuff. He'd pay Rian back. He would. He would. He would.
He just needed this. She'd understand.
He reached out for the door knob, and was about to turn it, when suddenly he heard the sound of small footsteps entering the living room. His eyes shifted from the entrance to Rian's disappointed gaze.
"Rian," he tried to sound surprised. His words began coming out fast after that. "I was just gonna get some air."
"Cain."
"It's a nice night for it."
"Cain..."
"I was gonna walk down to the liquor store to get a monster, I hope you don't mind. I-"
"Shut up!"
He winced. She'd never yelled at him like that before.
"I heard you on the phone, okay? You're not fooling anybody."
He was at a loss for words. "I, um.. Look-"
"Don't say anything." Rian said, monotonously. "Just take the money and go."
"But I can explain."
"Please stop talking," she frowned, tone firm and heartless. "I can't do this right now. Just leave."
His eyes dropped to the hardwood floors. He was ashamed. Cain picked up the strays of his belongings that fell on the floor and turned towards the door. He turned his head briefly, taking one last glance at Rian. He could see right through her facade, and the tears threatening to fall. He'd done enough damage here, he didn't want to do any more. Head lowered, he shakily slipped out the front entry and into the night.
Rian stood in the living room, eyes shut tight. She didn't feel empty this time. She felt sure for once that she had actually made the right decision.
Channa and Lizzie watched from the hall, dressed in mismatched pajamas. And Miranda watched from the couch.
"You okay, nips?" Channa asked after a minute of absolute silence.
"I'll be fine." Rian turned to head back to her room and out of the corner of her eye, caught sight of her new Netflix profile name: RIGAY EATS ASS
Her eyes flicked to Miranda, who chuckled nervously in response.
