Chapter 34: Celebrities on Vacation

~Mariah's P.O.V.~

I giggled some more as Callie spontaneously whipped out her phone and took a picture of me laughing at Niall, who is carrying all of his bags plus all of mine. We're standing in front of the airport terminal, waiting for Liam. He's calling the hotel to tell them that we're going to stay at tonight to discuss the arrangements.

This morning we left New York to fly out to Florida. Tomorrow the cruise departs for a week, and I'm beyond excited. I had a lot of nice things when I was smaller, and pretty much every year my family went on a cruise for spring break and some other exotic vacation in the summer. Then Ethan passed away, my parents got mad at me, I moved away, and that was the end of my travels.

"The perks of having a famous boyfriend," I smiled while leafing through a magazine on a nearby stand. "He has to hold your stuff or he looks like a total jerk."

"Everybody already knows what a sweetheart I am," Niall replied with a laugh. He gave me another charming and adorable grin that clearly said you-know-you-love-me.

"Okay I have to give you that one," I relented.

It's true. Just look at that face. Before I even met One Direction I loved Niall because, let's face it, he's this total innocent, huggable, sweet thing. Or at least, that was my belief until he teamed up with Louis to set up a booby trap. That plan backfired though because when I walked through the door, the cup of Gatorade failed to come down on me. I had no idea that I was supposed to have a drink poured on me though, so I just kept walking while Niall went to inspect the issue. And then it fell on him instead.

And then I laughed my butt off at him.

"Alright, let's get moving! The hotel staff is ready!" Liam said, and the rest of us started shuffling to the airport exit where a driver was waiting for us.

I took a sip from my tea while I watched Niall hand all my bags to the driver. When he was done, I grinned at him before taking a seat in the car next to him.

When I got settled into my seat and buckled the seat belt, I went to grab my tea from the cup holder. Instead I find it in Niall's hand, and my eyes travel up the straw where it's in Niall's mouth.

"Ewww give that back," I whined to no avail.

Louis's hand suddenly grabbed the cup from Niall. For a second I thought he was being nice and getting my cup. Nope. He took a sip out of it too.

"Yuck, you guys are nasty. I don't even want that back."

Niall and Louis exchanged a grin and then started to laugh when they turned back to me and saw my pouty face. I increased my grumpy face and swatted at both of them.

Everybody else piles into the car, and it gets rather loud with three conversations going at once. To me the drive is way too long, but that might have something to do with the fact that I'm squished up against Niall which makes my heart race really fast. I love being with him, but I raced out of the car as soon as we pulled up because having Niall's warm skin against mine for 15 whole minutes was about to give me a heart attack.

When I was fleeing from my potential medical condition of Niall, I suddenly realized that we were parked in the back of the hotel and that there was a man at the door waiting for us. Then it clicked: this treatment was because we were celebrities. We don't need to be seen.

I stood there for a second, letting that sink in. Niall's jolly voice filled my ears and broke me from my thoughts. "What's up with you, practically runnin' out of the car and then standing there frozen?" he said in a joking tone, but I detected curiosity in it as well.

"I, uh...aren't you supposed to be getting my bags?" I demanded in a poor attempt to change the subject. Niall just chuckled and shook his head, but went to help the driver unload.

Inside the hotel, we're ushered straight to our rooms on the top level. Callie and I are sharing our room which is facing the back. When you overlook the parking lots, you see the Miami city, making the view nice. The room is fairly large, but it's not a huge suite like I'm sure the boys are accustomed to. We didn't pick an extremely grand hotel anyway, because we figured that's the first place people would think we are. This hotel is still nice, though.

Callie and I put our luggage down and unpack what we'll need for the rest of the night and then in the morning. I take out my earbuds and connect them to my phone, and then retreat to the plush bed.

I just click play so that a random song comes on. Atlas by The Fray comes on, instantly soothing me. I let out a sigh and close my eyes, letting the darkness of my eyelids and the melody of the music take over me.

"She doesn't take naps," Niall argued, bringing me out of my unconscious state. I don't wake up fully though.

"Well we got up before the crack of dawn and then on the plane Harry poked her for like an hour while she was trying to nap, remember?" Callie laughed.

No, I don't remember. I'm trying to finish my deserved sleep, please.

The bed sinks suddenly, waking me up further. "Hey Riah," Niall cooed. "Get out of bed." Well. His tone changed from sweet to demanding in a second.

"Shut up," I groaned groggily.

"And Sleeping Beauty awakens!" Niall cheered. Right after he said that a small blush appeared on his cheeks. Dawh.

"You messed up my beauty sleep though."

Niall ignored me and plucked out an earbud from my ear. "Whatcha listening to?"

Before I can answer or protest, Niall's face crinkled into a laugh and began to sing. "It's only been four months but-"

"Be quiet," I said grumpily. I sat up and covered his mouth.

"What? You seem to like hearing me sing that in the song." Niall wiggles his eyebrows.

I shove his shoulder and he just throws his head back in a laugh. I rolled my eyes at him and forced myself to get off of the bed, no matter how comfy it is. "Where's Callie?"

"Dunno. Hey let's go see some fans," Niall suggested, forgetting about Callie.

"You woke me up to go listen to girls scream at you?"

Niall looked up like he was thinking. "Yeah."

I fell back onto my bed. "No."

Niall pouted. "Why not?"

"Sleeping Beauty must have her slumber, good night," I proclaimed even though it's 4 p.m., but I'm tired.

"Alright," Niall relented. More quietly, he said, "Good night." He leaned down and brushed my hair back before I felt a pair of familiar lips on my cheek that zapped me in a pleasant way.

If he expects me to be able to sleep now, he's dead wrong.

I sauntered out of my room, but Niall was already gone. I knew that this pod of three rooms belonged to our group, so it doesn't matter if I knock on random doors, but I hear Callie's voice in the one right across.

I knocked on the door, and it was opened by Zayn. "Hey." His accent surprises me every time since it's not like even talks that much.

"Hi," I said while plopping myself on the couch facing Callie and Harry. Zayn sat back down on the couch beside me.

"Mariah, you woke up!" Callie exclaimed.

"Yeah," I grumbled because I didn't get enough sleep time.

"What do you wanna do the rest of the night?" Callie asked me.

I perked up quickly. "There's a little fair nearby. We could go there."

"Ooh okay!" Callie said excitedly. "Bye Zayn, bye Harry!"

The boys said their goodbyes to Callie as she and I walked out of their room.

Callie and I got ready quickly. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail mid-way down. My outfit was simple: jean shorts and a lavender tank top that showed a lot of my upper back. Since it was still pretty sunny, I gladly put on a pair of sunglasses because I don't feel like being recognized tonight.

I was completely out of my sleepy state now because I was excited to do something in Miami. The last time I was here there was a fair just like this one that my mother and I were planning on going to, but it got rained out.

"So," Callie said as we made our way out the hotel doors. "How far is the fair?"

"Maybe like a mile or so?" I took one look at her face and reassured her, "Don't worry, we're taking the metro rail! We aren't walking."

"Oh good. For a second I thought you were trying to make me exercise and I was like HA-HA-HA no," Calle replied, making me laugh. Seriously, though, I don't know how she stays so skinny because she exercises maybe once a year.

"One day you should come to the gym with me," I invited her, although I knew she'd turn it down without a second thought.

"Nope, no way."

I laughed as we got into the metro thingy. We took stood at the front by the maps which I peered at. We have to get off in six stops from now.

"So, what's going on with you and that Styles boy?" I asked Callie with a smirk on my face.

"Whaaat..." Callie said in a high-pitched tone. It's amazing how actors and actresses are all such horrible liars.

"Spill."

Callie blushed. "Fine. He's attractive."

"And?"

"I like his abs."

I bursted out laughing. That wasn't the answer I was hoping for, but that's the Callie I know. "Lucky for you, you'll probably be seeing a lot of that on the cruise."

Callie smirked. "Yep, I'm aware of that overwhelmingly wonderful fact."

Before I could reply, Callie turned the tables. "So, what's happening with Mariall?"

"What?" I asked in confusion, but a second later it clicked.

Callie pulled out her phone and got on Twitter. She quickly punched in the hashtag and shoved it in front of my face and the same time the metro skidded to a stop, resulting with her phone jabbed into my nose.

"Ow," I mumbled, rubbing my nose. I peered at her phone and indeed, Mariall was Mariah + Niall. Awkward. "Well," I began my answer. "There's not much going on. Just happiness."

"Aw, you're too cute. You two are killers with the adorableness that happens."

"I know," I boasted with an airy tone.

"And I'm guessing you don't know how he is in bed yet?"

My face flushed immediately and I groaned. "No, Callie, no. I've told you before, I'm not really a pre-marital sex person."

Callie scrunched her nose up. "I couldn't live like you."

I let out a laugh while I gestured for Callie to get off at this stop. "Yeah I know, that's why you and Harry are good for each other."

I'm pretty sure a small blush appeared on Callie's face, but I didn't bother her about that. Instead, my mind wandered to another thought.

"Oh!" I exclaimed, ruffling through my purse and pulling out the blue sticky note. "You dropped this the other day at work."

Callie's eyes widened slightly when she grabbed for it, but she returned to normal so quickly I felt like imagined it.

"What does that word mean?" I questioned her, referring to the single word she had scrawled on the sticky note. I forgot to look it up.

"Oh, I'm not really sure. It just sounded cool so I jotted it down," Callie replied vaguely, putting the small piece of paper back in her purse.

Well she's lying. But that's a mystery for later. Right now we're at a fair in Miami; I need to just have fun.

The two of us walked around the plaza. There were booths everywhere for different things from a smoothie shop to college organizations. Most of the booths were from local food shops with free samples, so Callie and I didn't even go out to eat afterwards. The fair was situated in a plaza that had small shops and boutiques, so we took our time shopping too. At the end, we had full stomachs but not that many shopping bags, since we were going on a cruise tomorrow after all.

We got back to the hotel three hours later when it was around seven. As soon as we got to our room, we flopped down on our beds, and as soon as we flopped down on our beds, one of the boys decided to knock ferociously on our door.

I glared at that the door but got up anyway because I knew Callie never would. When I opened the door, Niall's sweet face was smiling.

"Hey, we were going to order room service for food instead of going out, do you guys wanna join?" Niall asked.

"No!" Callie shouted from her bed.

Niall jumped back and put his hands up defensively. "Okay, okay!"

I laughed. "We were just out and got food. I'll order something to eat later. What are you getting?"

"Chicken tenders, fries, and applesauce. And water."

"Sounds good, can you order me the same?" I asked Niall. He smiled and nodded before turning away to go back to his room, next to mine.

I went back into my room where Callie had turned on the TV. After I sat back on my bed, Callie passed me the remote. "Nothing I care about is on."

I found a news channel that I watched for about 10 minutes, but there was nothing exciting on. While I was flipping through the channels again, another knock sounded. "Go away!"

"I have your food," Niall's voice came thorough the door.

"Never mind I'm coming."

Niall was still laughing when I flung open the door. He handed me the food and I took it, no longer holding the door. So it closed. In his face. And I laughed.

I put the food down and then came back to help Niall out although I was still laughing. He was rubbing his face and quickly looked up when he noticed me.

"Are you okay?" I checked. "I'm sorry."

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just gonna go eat with the boys."

"Okay, bye!" I said and then closed the door, this time not on his face.

Soon it was 7:30, so new shows came on. Callie and I found one that suited both of our interests. Whenever we watched TV together, our first choice was NCIS. I don't know why, considering neither of us are into that kind of stuff.

By the time we got really into the show - basically, 5 minutes into the show - somebody knocked on the door again. I was beginning to get seriously annoyed.

"Cals?" I said in hopes she would get off of her butt and open the door just this once.

She grinned back at me mischievously. "Nope!"

I rolled my eyes at her and forced myself to get off of the bed. "Coming," I mumbled to whoever was at the door, although I doubted they could hear me.

When I opened the heavy, brown door, I wasn't expecting to be shoved out of the way by Harry.

"A 'hello, may I come in?' would've been nice, you know," I muttered to his back.

"Turn to that fancy American news channel!" Harry demanded to Callie since she was in control of the remote.

"An 'oh sorry, I didn't mean to intrude' would've been nice too," I said grumpily, making my way back to my bed.

"Oh sorry I didn't mean to intrude," Harry replied, eyes glued to the television, but then turned to face Callie. "This isn't that news channel."

"And this isn't your maid, and we're watching TV already," Callie retorted.

Harry made a puppy face at her, but she indignantly rejected him again, resulting in him simply stealing the remote from her hands. I just sat on my bed and laughed.

Callie took a book off of the nightstand in between the two beds and whacked Harry's head with it.

"Ow!" Harry yelped, rubbing his head and glaring at Callie.

"You didn't quite hit that right. I believe Best Song Ever requires a more high-pitched sound than that," I joked, and Harry switched his glare on Callie to me. "So why are you in our room using our TV again?"

"Zayn and Louis are on the TV in my room playing a video game, and Niall and Liam are hogging the other TV watching some weird show with an old lady in it. Those rude TV hoaders" Harry said while punching in digits into the remote.

I rolled my eyes, and Callie spoke my thoughts - "And how are you any different?"

"Sh! I'm busy," Harry said distractedly while staring at the screen.

Callie and I exchanged one glance, and she understood. She handed me the book, and then I whacked Harry on the head with it.

"OW!"

Callie smirked. "Much better."

Harry turned back and gave us both a menacing face, but it was evident that he was fighting a smile.

Just then I remembered the sticky note from before. I kept forgetting to look that word up! I put the book down and grabbed my phone from the nightstand. In Safari, I typed into the search bar:

define philophobia

Google pulled up a definition that it's some album by Arab Strap, whom I've never heard of. I scrolled down, and without even clicking I read off of Wikipedia.

Philophobia is defined as the abnormal persistent and unwarranted fear of falling love. Thisaffects...

Hm. Why would Callie write that down? And she obviously knows what it means, despite her excuse earlier this afternoon. I just don't understand what she's thinking so much about this word. We were obsessing over Niall & I one second, then Paul came to talk to me, and then when I looked back she seemed all caught up with it. She's not going to open up either, so I guess I'll just have to be stuck in my little world of confusion.

"Whatcha doin' Mariah?"

I jerked my head up to find Callie staring at me intently which makes me a little nervous, especially since I'm trying to figure out something she obviously doesn't want me knowing.

"Uh...I was thinking about what Niall would look like shirtless?" Okay, I don't know. That was the first lie that popped up into my messed up head.

Harry whipped his head up at me with an evil smile on his face. "Oh Niall!" he called, still looking up at me.

"No no no no no!" I cried out and then almost pounced on Harry. "Shut your mouth!"

"Mrmfall!" Harry shouted through my hand. "Mrmall!"

"What?" Niall asked innocently, strolling through the door. Curses, the one time I didn't lock it.

"Oh hey Niall what's up you know what Harry's on his period so it's probably best for you to come back another time." I gave Niall a stern glare while pressing my hands against Harry's mouth and hope that he would get the message leave-now-and-I'll-tell-you-later.

Niall throws his head back in a laugh. God I love it when he does that. Then Niall leaves, despite Harry's ferocious head shaking and muffled screams. Callie just laughed, not bothering to spill my fake secret to Niall.

As soon as Niall leaves, I shot daggers with my eyes at Harry. "Tell him and you die."

Harry laughed. "You're too nice to kill me."

"Callie's not." I smirked, glancing at Callie who nodded her approval.

Harry took one look at Callie and scrambled up. "Bye bye!"

As soon as Harry exited, Liam walked in. Callie groaned and let her head fall back onto the pillow.

"My God, Callie and I must be über-popular. I swear if we go two minutes in silence we're lucky."

Liam put his hands up. "Sorry."

"No, no, you're fine. What did you need?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.

"We wanted to invite you to come see the fans," Liam said.

"Sure, why not. Callie, you coming or not?"

Callie opened one eye to look at me. "No."

I shrugged. "Okay, I'll be back in a few minutes."

I followed Liam out the door and into the room he shared with Niall and Louis.

When Niall saw me come in the room. his face brightened and he beckoned me over quickly, so I went over. Out the window I saw a group of fans. It wasn't a big mob, thank goodness.

I got close enough to Niall that he just grabbed my forearm and dragged me to the window for the girls down below to see.

They cheered my name but since there weren't too many girls, it wasn't too loud. After a few girls called out something like "hi Mariah!"

Louis shouted down to them to ask questions for the boys on Twitter to answer now using the hashtag #1Danswersnow.

There were like 20 girls and it seemed like the questions were flooding in.

@1Direction4Ever: Why are you guys at a hotel?:)xx

@LouisLovesLina: Louis can we get married and eat cotton candy for dinner very Saturday because I love you

@MariallInfinite: Can we ask Mariah questions too?! If so, Mariah, what's your favorite thing about each boy? Xx

@MrsMarcel3147: Who else is with you all!!!

All of the tweets were something if the sort and we took about 20 minutes to answer them. My day was way too long, so I said my goodbyes and headed to my room.

Before I left though, Niall pecked my cheek, earning lots of aw's from the girls and probably a big goofy smile from me.

~

"Rise and shine!" I shook Niall and then turned to Liam to do the same. Then I made my way to the couch to shake Louis. "We have to be out of here in 30 minutes and I'd imagine you guys still want to eat breakfast because you won't be eating anything until 7 hours from now."

I was fully ready and so was Callie. The only thing we hadn't done was put our luggage in the car in the back lot outside, but otherwise we figured we needed to be helping those boys.

"What freaking time is it?" Louis mumbled angrily.

"Five o'clock in the mornin'," I sang with an accent, trying to imitate the song but failing.

"Oh God it's too early for waking up!" Louis cried out and covered his head with a pillow.

I moved on from Louis to Liam. "Liam -"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm getting up."

"Mkay. Niall! Get up!" I said, making my way over to the next victim of early rising.

From Niall's bed under the covers came a bunch of incoherent sounds. Hm. I wondered if I could have the same effect on Niall as he had on me.

I peeled the bedspread off from over Niall to reveal an adorable face. Dang he's cute when he's sleeping.

I leaned down to peck Niall's cheek with a kiss. A smile spread over my face when I saw goosebumps immediately appear in the area that I kissed Niall. Only seconds later did Niall finally open his eyes. Later when I was without Niall I would compare him to Medusa because I would be frozen when he caught my eyes. Right now his were filled with happiness despite the early hour when they peeked up at me through the covers.

"It's time to get up," I said softly to him, and he smiled. I stood there for a second just looking at him until I realized what I was doing, and then I quickly composed myself and made sure the three boys in that room were all awake before moving onto Zayn and Harry's room, but it looked like Callie already woke them up so I just went back to my own room.

The sun is still rising by the time Callie and I make it out into the back lot. The driver was just sitting in the front seat patiently and cheerily made his way over to help us with our bags. I would hate to have his job.

When we went back up I was pleased to see that all of the boys were getting ready. We told them that we were going down to eat our breakfast where they would eventually meet us.

Soon enough the boys filtered down one by one and gobbled down their breakfast. Surprisingly, the boys were calm enough to not attract any attention for once. Or maybe it was because of the fact that it was almost 5:30 a.m.

"Louis, stop it now," I ordered, getting thoroughly annoyed. "Don't be a distraction, and sit your butt in the seat."

Louis made a face at me. "You're worse than my mum. She's at least nice."

"I'm beginning to think I get paid so much because I'm a part-time babysitter for you guys, so shut up because you aren't the only one getting the short end of the deal."

Louis crumples his face at me. "Rawr."

Eventually Louis obeyed and everyone got settled into the car. The driver took off without a word, and we all were rather silent for the first few minutes of the ride because of the nice view out the windows. None of us were really used to palm trees every 15 feet.

"Lalala," Callie broke the silence.

Somehow, that made conversation begin.

Being the quiet person I was, I didn't join the conversations. I continued to thoughtfully watch the scenery pass. Trees, ocean in the background, modern shops, a car acc -

A car accident.

The car looked totalled against a pole.

Oh my God.

Oh my God.

"Mariah! Come here, now!" the voice called worriedly, bringing me out of my panic for only a second.

The sirens blasted through the air as did the shouts of officers and witnesses and whoever els. The world was starting to spin, blending the red and blue flashing lights. All of the sudden I was on the ground, and Daddy came back for me, lifting me up by my wrists and then brushing the small pebbles and gravel off of my palms.

I started to wail again, and the tears went down in the path that the previous tears had created. This couldn't be happening. No no no.

"Mariah, shh. It's going to be okay."

"No it's not! Ethan is probably dead, Daddy! How can you say it's going to be okay?" I screamed through my tears. He fell silent, but my mother's cries echoed around me. Suddenly I felt bad; my dad's eyes were glistening and I knew the pain I felt was barely comparable to that of my parents. I couldn't apologize now though, even if I wanted to. I was choking up.

I ran after my parents and stopped when they did, because I saw what they did. Police and doctors surrounding the familiar dark green SUV. And then, the uniformed men rushed out of the vehicle's vicinity.

"Both are dead."

Oh my God. They're both dead. Ethan is dead. Ethan.

Just then, almost like I was the one that had been dying, my life flashed before my eyes. But not my whole life - just the one Ethan and I shared.

And at the same moment, while my dad tried to be strong for the both of us, my mom and I let out bone-chilling screams.

My brother's mutilated body was pulled out from the car.

Then I felt my father's rough hands shield my vision from the horrid sight, and instead of seeing the body, I heard my mother's continuous screams and sobs mixed with the wails of the sirens.

"Mariah? Mariah! Mariah, stop!"

My eyes popped open, and I saw Liam's eyes widened with fear while they looked into my own. His hand was gripped tightly around my arm as he flapped his other hand in Niall's face to get his attention, all the while staring at me with a ghostly pale face.

I felt the sweat covering my face, but they mixed in with the tears that were still streaming down my face. Goosebumps covered every inch of my skin, and my whole body was shaking.

"Ma-Mariah, what's wrong?" Niall said weakly. His voice was so low that it didn't attract any more attention.

"I," was all I could make out before my voice was caught in my throat. I tried again. "I saw that...that car crash."

Both of their heads whipped backwards to face the car crash. It's that close still? My nightmare was really fast. Or I guess it wasn't a nightmare, but I have nightmares too. I'm grateful that so far nobody has noticed. They've been less frequent though.

Liam's worried face now displayed confusion too. "What does - why did that, um, affect you so much?"

"You - you never told the boys, did you?" I asked, turning to Niall. When I told Niall about Ethan, I said that Niall could tell the other boys if he wanted, so I just kind of expected from him that he would, but I guess not.

"Er...no."

I sighed and faced Liam. "I'm not going to get into anything complicated, but to put it in a nutshell my brother died in a car crash because of a drunk driver."

Liam looked taken aback at first, but his eyes home with sorrow the whole time. "Oh. Oh God, I'm so sorry."

"It's fine, but thanks," I said grimly, pulling at my earlobe.

For the rest of the ride, Niall, Liam, and I all sat in silence. I was too consumed in my thoughts to fully comprehend what I was even doing when the car ride finished, we checked in, we boarded the cruise, and dropped our stuff off in our cabins. All I really know is suddenly we were in some captain guy's office. He briefly talked to us our celebrity status and the problems that might come with that, but I barely absorbed anything from that. Somebody can always fill me in later or something.

My mind finally started to wander back to reality when I got some food in my stomach.

"Hey, you okay?" Niall's big blue eyes shined at me with concern.

"Yeah," I replied airily and gave him a small smile that was mostly fake.

"Cheer up, we're on vacation!"

After I gave him a sad look, he just pouted back at me and complained, "You're making me sad, stop."

I finally let out a light laugh. "Sorry."

"Hey, let's go cheer you up," Niall told me. "We can go sit on a balcony while our cruise departs."

"What about the deck?"

"That captain dude wanted us to stay inside starting now because there's already a lot of confusion now with everybody starting to board, so he doesn't want more chaos," Niall explained.

I shrugged. "Yeah I wasn't paying attention. That makes sense though."

Niall grabbed my hand with his own and led me through his cabin that he's sharing with Liam. He unlocked the sliding door with his free hand. The second it was opened, the humid, ocean scent filled my nostrils. I closed my eyes in remembrance.

Our hands separated when Niall had to unfold the lounge chairs. Everything here was so nice; I can't imagine how much money it took to pay for it all.

Since the chairs were wide, Niall and I shared one. I cuddled up next to his side and rested my head between his shoulders and head. He moved his head slightly down so it could lay on mine and then snuck his arm underneath and around me to pull me closer.

It was around four o'clock and the boat was supposed to leave soon. Commotion in the hallways could be heard through the walls. Suddenly a very loud horn blowed, signaling the departure.

I shrieked and fell off the edge of the chair.

Niall's deep laugh filled the air around us, and so I scowled up at him. He just laughed more, but then he got up to come help me. He leaned towards me with an extended hand. I felt his strength when he pulled me up all towards him easily, but I knew his gentleness when his lips brushed my forehead, nose, and then finally landed on my lips.

After we stopped being romantic, we both sat back up for a minute to cheer the leaving boat and watch the water stir in its path. Then we relaxed back into the seat and I felt his radiating warmth once again.

Seconds turned into minutes, and those minutes turned into an hour or two. For once I wasn't concerned about the time. I felt at ease and relaxed when I was with this carefree boy. I can barely remember any other times in my life where I felt so happy and unworried.

While we laid there peacefully, the sun took its time setting. The sky turned from light blue to a blend of purples, pinks, and oranges. Every once in a while we would murmur in conversation, but most of the time we said nothing and instead would lay in a comfortable silence.

I closed my eyes to try to make this moment last forever. Only seconds later did Niall speak for the first time in about 10 minutes.

"You know Mariah, I hate to break this up but I really want food."

I lifted my head up from its position on Niall's chest and laughed. "That's fine, my stomach was feeling the same way," I said, and then my stomach grumbled.

We got up and Niall slid his hand into mine. Now that we're actually dating it feels way different. Better different.

I took one last glance at the fading sun and stepped back into the room with Niall, letting a smile appear on my face.
