~Mariah's P.O.V.~

I stepped out of the cab and slid on my Aviators. I quickly thanked the driver and fumbled through my wallet, finally pulling out a twenty dollar bill. I was so distracted with the prospect of my first day working that I just told him to keep the change.

Checking the time on my phone, I hurried to the Twentieth Century Fox building. When I got there, we were going to go over some guidelines and then take awhile to get to know know each other. I didn't even know who was going to be acting the other parts, so I couldn't wait until I get to meet them! But what if we don't get along? What if they think I'm a terrible actor? I don't want to embarrass myself in front of so many famous people!

I pushed all of my insecure thoughts out of my head. First, I actually needed to get to Twentieth Century Fox. The sidewalks were so crowded, and being in high heels definitely didn't help. I pushed my way through the crowd until I stood in front of a tall building that was my new workplace. The building was so tall and big, and the sign loomed right over my head, intimidating me.

There aren't words to describe how I felt, but I guess if I had to go with one, it would be superexcitedlynervous.

My heart pounded as I stood in front of the glass doors. I clutched my handbag like my life depended on it. I hurried to the doors and swung them open before I could get even more jittery.

"Yes, sir!" I practically shouted at James Cameron, my director.

He laughed at me. "I'm 3 feet away. I don't think you need to shout."

"Sorry," I said – much quieter – blushing.

"Don't worry about it. Anyway, as I was saying, you have the part of Sofia, a starring character. You were brought up well-off, but still raised to work hard. When the movie begins, you're in college already. But, you're still young. You don't always make the best decisions," James started explaining. I already auditioned for this part, so I knew everything he was telling me already. However, it was my first day, and I'm not an award-winning actress, so I should probably just listen without complaining.

"You chat an unknown guy online. The guy gives you a good impression, but he's really not so great. You, however, want to meet him. Again, not the smartest decision. The two of you set up a date to meet.

"Meanwhile, two other people are going through similar happenings. Both couples are to meet at the same time, same place," the director summarizes. "Here's why the movie is called What Are the Chances: your 'date' is late. The girl in the other couple is late. So, you and Niall, the boy from the other couple meet."

"That's so funny that his name is Niall," I said, laughing, before he got to finish. "Aren't the girls who watch the movie gonna think of One Direction when they see this?"

James Cameron shifted in his seat apprehensively and looked me straight in the eye, making me nervous. "Well, actually, they would've began to think about them before that."

I froze, my laugh vanishing instantly. Is this going where I thought it was going...?

Just then, a knock on the door sounded. James Cameron spun around in his swivel seat while calling, "Come in!"

The door opened a bit, but I hardly paid attention. I'm deep in thought about One Direction and what all of this might mean.

"And you're Mariah Cannaday?" a voice said from the doorway.

I snapped my head up. There's Simon Cowell, standing next to the door, and looking at me.

Oh. My. God. This can only mean one thing.

"Mariah, One Direction is here to meet you, seeing as you lot are going to be acting in the movie together."
