My eyes flutter open, and I gasp at what I see. A herd of deer graze peacefully in a lush green meadow, unbothered by my presence. Warm golden sunlight showers down between the trees, speckling the soft, cool  dirt below. A rabbit hops contentedly among the deer, searching for food.
I get to my paws and wonder at how great I feel.
I pad to the stream and lap it up, each drop making me feel stronger.
A reflection in the water catches my attention and I yelp, leaping backward.
I creep back to the waters edge and find a wolf staring back at me with wide A
aqua blue eyes. She has a beautiful thick mane, as white as fresh snow, and her belly shows that she's been well fed.
I tilt my head, the wolf in the water doing the same. How can this be me? I think.
"It is indeed you, Owl" comes a voice from behind me.
When I turn I'm looking down at a grey she-pup. Despite her age, her green eyes show knowledge beyond her years. They hold a jovial glimmer that only the old and wise could contain.
"And you are in the Sky Meadow" she continues.
"So I'm dead?" I ask with less concern than I should be feeling. It would be a relief to be free of her life in the pack.
"Not yet, but very close to it" she pauses. "Owl," the pup says softly, "you still have a chance. You have so much life left ahead of you." Her whole demeanor changes. Her face holds hope directed at me.
"What's left for me down there?"
"Nothing where you are"
Seeing my dubious look she steels herself, knowing that I would not give in, and says quietly "I won't let you ruin this for yourself"
The peaceful scene around me fades away and I'm left scrabbling to hold on. "I don't want to go back!" I howl but I'm wrenched from its warmth anyway.
