It was midnight before the pain was all over, and it was well worth it.
I lay curled around five tiny pups, Crow supporting me on my other side and gazing at us proudly. Sky watched the young wolves every move, excited about the new additions.
I myself had no idea how it had happened, since although me and Crow were mates, we had never actually mated. Otherwise I would have been able to connect the dots with my recent weight gain. I guessed that it must be the Elder-pup's doing since she seemed to be well aware of her pregnancy. Thankfully we did know they were Crow's, since the resemblance was unmistakable.
"What will you name them?" Sky asked eagerly.
Looking over the pups, I pondered the question.
The biggest and eldest was male, all black like his father but his eyes were still closed so they didn't know who he took after in that respect.
"Onyx" I decided for him. A strong name that described him both physically and in terms of his will I was sure.
Next came a significantly smaller she-pup, although she was second oldest. Her pelt was a slightly creamy white, with the lightest sprinkling of black hairs over her back and the tip of her tail. She looked so delicate and sweet.
"Lily".
Now was another female, larger than Lily but similar in color except that her coat was white, and had more dark hairs in an almost unnoticeable triangle on her forehead. In addition, the same dark color appeared thickly around her eyes. Immediately I thought of the graceful yet potentially vicious bird that she resembled so clearly.
"Swan"
The third, yet another female, resembled me quite a lot, with her pure white coat. She was slightly smaller than Swan, but still bigger than Lily. Her beautiful fur looked as if it was made of moon beams, and seemed befitting to her calmer disposition.
"Moon"
Lastly was a male, the runt of the litter. He had such an odd coloring, brown. Perhaps one of Crow's ancestors had a similar coat I reasoned to myself. I didn't dwell on that so much though since I had other things to think about, such as his size. He was so much smaller than all the others, it worried me.
"Cedar" I decided determinedly. His fur was similar to that of a cedar tree's, but I picked that name for a different reason. A strong name, one as solid as a cedar tree would help his body grow just as strong as I knew his mind and heart were.
With the naming done I licked each one lovingly and nursed them.Sorry this is so short, but guess what that means? There will be at least one more chapter still! I was originally just going to make them one chapter, but I decided that meeting the pups and the revelation to come should each have their own turn in the spotlight.
So, what do you think about the new additions? They're all just precious little babs aren't they ^.^
And I know that absolutely no one could have ever predicted it, because this so totally not super cliche right?
xD
Wellp, as always I hope you enjoy this chapter of The Chosen, Beasties!
