Chapter 11

When I awoke someone was tampering with the leg that was hurt.

“Rode?” My voice crackled.

“Yea, its me.”

At the sound of his voice I smiled, even though my leg hurt so bad I was happy.

I squinted through the darkness and could see him. I don’t know if I was a good judge but it looked he had gained a lot of muscle in these past 3 days.

He saw my eyes open and smiled. He stood and picked me up. I laid my head on him.

He had a specific place he wanted to go because it felt like we were walking forever. Finally, he set me under a bush and got in on the other side.

There was tons of water and weapons in here. He must have struck it big at the cornucopia.

He took off his coat and wrapped it around me. He laid my head on the ground and sat right next to me.

“Go to sleep, Lily. Everything’s going to be okay.” He said.

I fell asleep and had no bad dreams. This was the first night I’ve been calm in a long time. When I woke, I could smell fire and smoke. I sat up and got a headache.

“Ow!” I yelled.

He must of heard me because a few seconds later he had his head in the bush.

“Come in.” I pleaded.

He crawled into the bush.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

“I missed you.” I said.

“Me, too.” He said, nicely. “Do you want to come outside or do you want to stay in here.”

“Where are you going?”

“Back outside.”

“Then I want to go outside, too.”

“Okay, do you need help walking?”

“No, I think I’ll be okay.”

I got up and felt weak but of course as usual I pushed myself too far. When I got out of the bush I slipped and fell on the snow on the ice.

“I knew I shouldn’t have let you walk by yourself.” He said helping me up.

“No, I’m fine.”

He rolled his eyes and laughed. He put his book bag on the ground so I could sit on it.

“So, how did this happen to you?” He asked.

“I had really bad blisters on my feet so I was trying to get leaves for them and the girl from District 3 threw a knife at me and It hit me in the stomach and then she came and cut me.”

“I wish I was there I could have-” I cut him off.

“Stop!” I was getting annoyed. “You couldn’t have done anything about it! I’m just happy you found me.” I smiled.

He gave me a leg of something. I looked at it confused.

“Its Gopher.” He said.

I took a bite into it and it was so juicy and yummy.

“You’re a good cook.” I said taking another bite.

“I think you are either delusional or you haven’t tasted food in the past 3 days.”

“It’s both.”

He laughed. Then he scooted me closer to the fire so I could be warm. He sat next to me.

“So what have you done these past few days?” I asked.

“Looking for you, I was scared you already died.” He said shaking his head.

“Can I go back inside? I’m cold.”

“Of course.”

He helped me under the bush and I asked him to come in with me. He sat next to me and I asked him a question.

“What did you think when you saw me on the ground?”

“I thought you were dead. My heart just stopped. I felt like I couldn’t move. I rushed to you and felt your pulse, it was there so I calmed down a little bit. I took some water out of my back pack and wiped of your wounds. I was freaking out, then you woke up so I was so relieved. I love you.” He said.

“I love you, too.” I said. “You have no idea much I missed you!”

“Yea, I do. I know exactly how much because I missed you more.”

“You know cameras are probably on us right now.”

“Is it bad that I don’t care.” He smiled and kissed me on the forehead.

I cant imagine what my mother is thinking right now. I tried not to make it obvious but my head started hurting again. But then again I’m not good at covering things up.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

“Its nothing just a headache.”

“No, its not just a headache, you lost half your blood and had a knife lodged in your stomach. Its not just a headache.”

Then I realized it wasn’t just a headache. He was right. I lost half my blood and got a knife in my stomach.

“I think you should get some sleep.” he said.

“But its still morning, I don’t want to go to sleep yet.”

“O.K.”

“Do you want your jacket back, you must be freezing!” I said.

“Do you think I would do that?”

“I’m guessing not.”

He shook his head. We sat there and talked and talked, laughed and laughed until I finally couldn’t keep my head up any longer.

“Ok, time for bed, and I’m not taking no for an answer this time.”

I laid down and he sat next to me. My head had a sharp pain and I sat up really quickly. That was when I threw up everywhere.
