                            Chapter 17

An airplane appeared out of nowhere and dropped its ladder. An electric current ran through me and stuck me to the ladder they got me on the plane and took me straight to a white room. They put me to sleep.

I woke up with no cuts, scars, or even dirt on my body. I was clean. I smelled my hair and I was soft and fruity. A lady walked into the room and told me they would bring me some food.

A minute later she walked in again with a bowl of beef broth. It tasted so good but I was full after 2 bites. I was happy that I was out of there but then I remembered that I would never see Rode again. I started crying.

Marina walked in then.

“Marina!” I yelled and she gave me a hug.

“What’s wrong?” She said rubbing my back.

“I miss him. I want Rode.” I said wiping the tears off my eyes.

“I know sweat heart, I know, but I do want to say that someone very special is here to see you. I’m going to go.” She said walking away.

A minute later a family with 2 girls, a boy, and a mom and a dad walked in.

“Hi, Lily. We’re Rode’s family.” The older woman said.

“Oh, my gosh. I loved your son, so much. I know it’s selfish to say that but I really did. I knew you guys must have been great because he was so great.” I said, so exited I got to meet them.

“You seem like a very well mannered girl and we appreciate what you said to us when he died.” Said the dad.

“I don’t even know what to say. I miss your son. I do. I wish he was here to comfort me and to take me away from the reality that I killed 3 people.”

“You didn’t mean to do that. It wasn’t your fault. You had to, you had no choice.” said the older girl.

She was very nice. She reminded me of a girl Rode.

“We thank you for everything. I’m sure you have a lot more people to visit you.” His mom said.

They left and I was left alone. Which was the worst thing to be.

Another lady came in and she said that the doctor had given me permission to walk around. I got up and walked out of the room.

Andrea was walking around.

“Andrea!” I said hugging her.

She smiled but looked in a hurry for something. She walked into another room. I walked over there and looked in the door. I couldn’t tell who it was but somebody was on the bed and the doctors were circled around them.

It must have been a worker who got injured. Well, almost died twice so I’m sure they’ll be okay.

Nobody was out here that I really cared about so I went back into the room to find my mother.

“MOM!” I yelled when I saw her.

“Oh, sweetie, I missed you so much.” She said, hugging me. “Me too, Mom . I miss everyone.”

“Including Rode?” My mom asked.

“Mom, are we really going to talk about this, right now?” I said. Not wanting to talk about Rode of all people.

“All I’ll say is he seemed like a nice boy.” She said, smiling.

“He was.” I said.

Another lady in white came in and they told me they needed me to go to sleep now. My mom left and was left to my thoughts. They turned off the lights and I fell asleep in a REAL bed. It was the first time in 2 weeks.

It was so comfortable. It reminded me of Rode. It smelled like him.

I woke up and a bowl of applesauce and a cup of milk was next to me. I drank a sip of the milk and 3 bites of the applesauce but then I was full.

Andrea came in and told me I would have an interview with Ceaser and would get crowned victor today and to make me look pretty they would need me the whole day. Then I could go home. Home I would be happier.

She took me into the bathroom and made me take a shower. Then they waxed my legs and arms. They cut my hair, cleaned my face and prepped my hair and face for makeup. I looked in the mirror and I looked how skinny I was when I was 10 with no curves.

They got me dressed and soon decided they were only going to put a little bit of eye shadow on for some reason. They put me in a long green dress and sent me to the studio.

When we got there I had to sit on a little chair that was yellow. Ceaser Flickerman came in and sat on the other chair. This was not going to be in front of a live audience it was in front of the camera. They shouted rolling and he started asking me questions.

“Hello, Lily.” He said, sounding less exited than he did the first interview. I knew what this was going to be about, my undying love for Rode.

“Hi.” I said back.

“Now, you and Rode touched the capitols hearts. You came out of the blue. Now, tell us the truth, when did you two actually fall in love.”

“Well, probably like 2 days after we got picked. We were both desperate to love something and well he found me.”

“And you two fell in love?” he asked.

“Yes.” I said.

“Do you miss him?” He asked.

“Yes, I do.” I said starting to cry.

“Would you say that he could have been your husband?

“Yes, I feel he very well could have. I really do miss him. I want him to come back, but I know that’s not possible.” I said, wiping away tears.

“We thank you, so, so, much for coming on the show tonight.”

I tried to smile. I walked out of there thinking only a bit more time until I go back to District 5.
