there was once a girl
who always smiled
she wore bags and gowns
such a beautiful child
she was much loved
throughout the land
and on her 16th birthday
the Prince asked for her hand
they still all wonder
why she left that day
why she stepped off the cliff
the whole world was going her way
but the smile was a grimace
the bags, under her eyes
the gowns, hospital robes
her life was a lie
and as for the Prince
little he knew
for the girl was searching
for a Princess too
it was all too much
to cope with the strain
of confusion and doubt
dominating her brain
so she took the
quietest and easiest way out
so they would remember
when word got about
the girl she once was
that always smiled
who wore bags and gowns
such a beautiful child
instead of the monster
she had become
if only she realised
she isn't the only one
