Kingdom of Clouds

The girl looked up. A sun scattered sky blossomed with serene yellow clouds. They drifted across a backdrop of baby blue. Her favourite colour was blue.
The girl walked. Today along the length of the field. The breeze danced through her fly-away hair, gliding through her kingdom of clouds. She longed to glide too.
The girl stopped. A single object lay on the curb. The toy was small and red. A calf, with white patches like clouds. She clutched it as she walked.
The girl considered with thought. A small quiet street much larger in her memory. One house stands out - red paint still dashing, garden still wild. Flowers smelling just as they did then - belonging to only one place in the whole world. She wonders if he is in her cloud kingdom now.
The girl paused. Another stares back, her dog yellow as the clouds. As she walks again the other turns and retreats, dog gliding beside her. She sighed, all quarrel and feeling left behind long ago.
The girl was home. Clouds hung low, no longer yellow, and sun was replaced by an ever deepening dusk. She was grateful to her kingdom. It had relieved her for a while at least. As she entered, she hoped the soul crushing reality would never return.
