~ a couple of days later~
~ Hazels POV ~

I am sat on the newly put on, cold hospital bed sheets which my new daughter in my arms cradling her to make her sleep she's been crying for hours, Uriah and I have been talking about names for her and I decided on August.
I chose the name August because that way every time I say her name I'll think of the smell of burnt out birthday candles, warm summer evenings and the feel of newly fallen leaves under my feet.

I just wish Dan was here.
Ciara says that he's awake but fully infected in the looks area, it seems we may be coming back to the hospital soon.

Uriah's voice shatters the silence like thin glass,
"HAZEL!" His voice is joined by what sounds like Callie and Drew's, I can hear them telling other people to run.
Uriah bursts through the door panting like an old dog on a summers day. "HAZEL GRAB AUGUST WE NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!"

"What's happening? Why are you shouting?" I ask panicked, August's crying doesn't help the matter.

"The zombies, they're here." Drew says his face grave, Callie is out of her nurses outfit and is wearing a green suit with multiple guns and knifes strapped to her and Drew is holding a pistol. Just a pistol, ookayy...

Uriah grabs my bags and all four of us run for the exit, we shut the doors as we were the last ones out but we can't hold them off, after about 10minutes of holding them off, Callie announces she's staying and holding them off, Drew says he will too, they tell us to get in the van and wait for them.

~ Drew's POV ~
My pistol runs out of ammunition I throw it on the floor and watch the zombies swarm around it like animals, it's not much of a distraction but it holds them off long enough for my 'sister' to throw me another gun, then resume cutting heads off.

Callies looks at me seemingly distracted, then suddenly I see a zombie sink it's rotting teeth into her jugular and rip. The blood spills into the floor and I cry out as I see the last of the life drain from her face and the zombies swarm around her body fighting over the flesh, I shoot the last few then leave, I don't dare to look at her body.
I shut the doors and get into the van and stare forward.

"Where's Callie?" Hazel asks me tears in her eyes.

"She- she didn't make it." I mustn't cry.

"Oh." Hazel sniffs and strokes her daughters forehead.

"Are you coming with us?" Uriah asks me with pity in his eyes.

"I don't want your pity." I say almost spitting out my words the sourness of my mood now replacing sorrow.

"I'm not giving you my pity, just kindness and a warm place to stay."

"I know, I'll happily stay thanks." I take out my pen knife and flip it into the air, it makes a satisfying clicking noise and I smile, "it's gonna be fun!"
