I see a figure in the distance, the summer heat blurring his features, as he gets closer I breathe a sigh of relief as I see I kind old mans face smiling back at me.
He comes and sits next to me staring into the sun,"Quite a beauty you have there eh?" He smiles down at August speaking his words in a crisp Scottish accent, he flicks his eyes back at me, his presence almost comforting.
"Thank you," I squint at the sunlight behind him, causing he old man to silhouette slightly. "If you don't mind me saying, you remind me of someone."
"That's strange," he sighs "you remind me of my daughter."
I weave my fingers between August's and look up at the man "having a daughter is one of the most beautiful blessings."
"Yes." He smiles but has sad eyes, he hands me a small tattered book "here read this to your daughter till she comes to read it herself, it will come in useful."
I flick through the book, the thoughtful illustrations are filled with colour. The thin pages feel different to a normal book. I look up to thank him and he's gone, just the hum of crickets in the stagnant summer air.
I watch the boys laughing and playing their games in the sun, their hair about their faces, they look so happy.
I want to stay here forever...
