It is 10 years later, the zombies have been contained but no cure has been found.
"Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to August! Happy birthday to you!"
I watch August blow out the candles on her cake, her dark magenta hair tumbling over her shoulders, her smile so beautiful it could light the heavens.
She runs over, her bear feet visibly cold on the kitchen tiles,
"Look mum!" She says holding up a small silver locket just like mine, "Look what Drew got me!"
"Snap!" I smile, clinking my pocket against hers.
She opens her locket, inside are 5 pictures, Me, Dan, Drew, Ciara and Tobias, August's 1 year old brother.
She then shuts it and runs off grabbing Drew's hand on the way, presumably to show him something.
Dan comes and sits beside me, after 10 years he's still embarrassed about his face and he still seems to try and hide it, he squeezes me hand and smiles "she's grown up." His eyes sad
"She's not leaving yet Dan."
"She will though."
"Not yet Dan." I snap letting go of his hand, tears tickling my eyes. "Not yet."
