Awkward moments

Alicia P.O.V.

Liam and I were on our way back home from the New Year's Eve party, and the awkwardness in the air was too real. I wanted to speak
to him but couldn't quite find the right words to say.
The radio wasn't on, so either I just sat there in silence or spoke up.
" Liam," I started and he instantly looked at me as he stopped at a red light.
" How'd you meet your ex?" I knew  it was risqué but I really wanted to know.
He sighed and hesitated but I knew he was going to tell me anyhow.
" I met her at a party a few years back, I'm not gonna lie,  at first it great, but she got to a point of jealousy and I couldn't take it anymore , we were together for three and a half years.." He finished trailing off as the light turned green.
" how'd you meet your ex ?" Liam asked. I knew it was only fair since he told me but I really hated talking about Rico , but I trusted Liam.
" Well, I met him back in college when we took a class together. Like you, we hit it off really well at first, he was very nice and treated me well. After about our first year of dating, I realized he would get really mad over the littlest things
" Like what???" Liam asked, his voice got louder instantly.
" Like if we were going out and I was taking too long to get ready, or if I hung out with other guy friends, or if I wanted to hang out with my girlfriends and have some me time. As time went on, he would get violent with me. At first he would punch things like the wall or knock a lamp over, but eventually he started hitting me," I tried to go on as I got a lump in my throat and tears started to form in my eyes. Liam kept one clinched hand on the wheel and he used his other hand to caress mine.
" It's okay baby, go on"  he calmly soothed pulling into the garage.
" When he started getting physically abusive with me, I knew it was time to leave. It took me a few months  to figure out how I was going to leave and when without him finding out. That's when I moved here, to get a fresh start. Tonight was the first time I've seen him in a year and a half. " I finished, wiping my eyes of my tears.
" I'm so, so sorry Alicia.." Liam trailed off caressing my cheek with his hand. He stepped out the car and came to my side, opened the door, and picked me up. He walked me inside the house and took me to my room. I thought he was going to leave after he put me down but he didn't.
He took his coat and shoes off and laid next to me in a spooning position.
" Guess we've both been in bad relationships. " I said and chuckled lightly, trying to lighten the mood.
" Yeah, I guess we have." Liam said, i could tell he was worried in the tone of his voice.
" Alicia, get some sleep." Liam said caressing my hair. And just like that, I was out.

Liam P.O. V.
I couldn't  believe Alicia had been through so much, you wouldn't tell judging by how strong of a woman she is.
I would make sure this Rico guy would be taken care of, how dare he hit a woman.
My woman. I know it's early but I care for Alicia dearly, I adore her.
All I know is, if he dare comes near here, there will be problems.
