I changed Kelsey's ex-boyfriend's name. I noticed that there was already a Tyler and I didn't want anyone to think they were the same person. His name is now Caleb! Sorry if that's confusing for those of you that read it while it was Tyler.

So I had lied, I wasn't going to have coffee with Jason tomorrow. At least, that hadn't been the plan, but I couldn't become a liar or Alex would never let me hear the end of it. He'd find every excuse to talk to me then and use it against me and I couldn't have that. I wasn't going to give him any power over me, it just wasn't going to happen again.
"Hey Brittney." I said with an overly exaggerated giddy tone. Lucky for me, she was too blonde to notice that I was faking excitement over seeing her dumb bimbo self.
"Hey Kelsey! I heard you were walking around the park with some hottie! What's his name?" She asked sliding into the chair next to me in the living room.
"I wasn't walking with a 'hottie'." I said awkwardly. How had someone seen me walking with Alex without us knowing? I hadn't seen anyone I knew or looked familiar. The only people that passed us were those kids and they weren't near going to college yet. "Who said I was?"
"Tyler. He was leaving here and saw you walking, but I guess he could have been mistaken." She said with a dismissive wave of her hand as she got up from the chair.
"Wait, Brittney, do you have Jason Marbles number?" I asked hopefully.
"Yeah, why? You wanna hook up with him?" She asked me with a scoff as if I had slapped her across the face. Not that I wouldn't, but I hadn't at this particular moment.
Knowing how Brittney hated when any girl tried to get with the guys she had been with, she probably thought I wanted to date him. If only she knew just how fair dating was from my mind, then maybe she wouldn't like someone just killed her pet cat.
"He became my math tutor today. My teacher demanded it after my test scores weren't enough."
"So why do you need his number? You can just go into class tomorrow and get it, right?" She asked curiously.
"I can, but I'm using him as an excuse not to go on a date with the guy Tyler saw me with." I said in a whisper as if it was a big secret. At least it wasn't a lie now, well it kind of was, but Brittney would never figure it out.
"So you were with some hottie!"
"Please tell me Tyler didn't use that word when he told you." I said with a groan as my gay-dar went off at Tyler saying that.
"No, but he told me you were falling all over the guy." Brittney said as she waggled her eyebrows to be suggestive. As if her cleavage that was popping out of her V neck t-shirt wasn't enough.
"I wasn't falling over him! I was literally tripping over my own two feet!" I exclaimed.
"Sure you weren't." Brittney said as she ripped a piece of paper and started writing on it.
"I wasn't!"
"Whatever you say, Kels. Here's Jason's phone number." She said as she handed me the slip of paper, but before I could grab it she pulled it away from me.
"What's your deal Brittney!?"
"In exchange for this information, I want something from you."
"What do you want?" I groaned as I slouched back into my chair knowing that this could take a while.
"I want you to set me up with that hottie you were walking with. I liked how Tyler was talking about him."
"You weren't comfortable with me trying to take Jason when you thought I wanted to date him, but now you want to do the same thing?" I asked with disbelief lining my words. I felt myself growing protective for no real reason. I didn't need to be and I have no right to be over Alex. As he had stated so many times he was my teacher and it wasn't appropriate.
"Yeah, I guess that's kind of bitchy... How about you just stop treating me like I'm a nescience?"
"I'm amazed you even know that word." I stated honestly.
Brittney just flashed me a glare as she shifted her weight onto her left foot. She crossed her arms and taped her right foot like she was waiting. She wasn't being serious right? Our relationship was built off acting like this to each other. Just like Mackenzie's and my relationship was built off a love of writing stories. I couldn't change how I acted with her now.
"You're kidding right?" I asked in disbelief.
"No, you and your friends walk around like I'm your enemy. I'm not asking to be best friends, I'm just asking for you to treat me like I'm not some monster that you're disgusted with."
"Then you have to stop having guys over every night and then walking around naked with them the next day. We both live here Brittney, but you act like I'm not even here."
"You're not most of the time!"
"That doesn't matter, we have to get along. If you haven't figured that out after two years, can you see why I think you're stupid?"
"Fine. We'll write a new roommate contract. Take the number, I now have to tell Mathew to leave."
I took the number from her and quickly put it in my phone. By the time I realized what she had actually said I was waiting for Jason to answer the phone. I looked at her in disbelief as she shrugged at me and walked away.
"You're kidding right?" I called as she left the room.
"No, sorry I'm not. Although, you called me so I'm not sure what I would be kidding about." Jason said through the phone. I could hear the smirk on his face as he spoke. He must think he's funny; poor kid is lying to himself.
"Hey Jason, it's Kelsey—"
"I was looking on your Rebel Yell to find your number. We never made a date to go get coffee."
Rebel Yell was a social media site that had boomed with popularity about two years ago. When I made mine, it was specifically to stay in contact with friends I wouldn't see anymore, like Zoey. Anyone that tried looking at my profile didn't see anything other than a picture.
They couldn't see my phone number, my birthday and most importantly they couldn't see my location. That was how Caleb found me after I left him, and I wasn't going to let that happen again. Although, I was thoroughly creeped out that he just admitted to stalking my Rebel Yell.
It made me wonder how many other people tried doing that. Besides Caleb I mean.
"It's not a date. You're my tutor and that's it."
"Oh, right! I didn't mean it like a couple date. I meant like a calendar date. " Jason lied smoothly as he stuttered his way through the excuse.
"Right, how about tomorrow? I have a nine o' clock class and would love to have coffee before."
"Yeah, that would be great! I will see you then!" He said excitedly as he hung up so I couldn't change my mind.
I was about to say something until I saw three guys walk out of Brittney's room. They didn't say a word to me, they only left the apartment and politely shut the door behind them. Brittney came out with a pout of her lips and looked at me.
"You ruin all my fun." She said as the door shut behind the boys that had walked out.
"You're kidding me right?" I said in disbelief as she shook her head.
I crumpled the piece of paper that had Jason's number on it and tossed it at her head. I laughed as it hit her square in the face. For a while she looked angry, then she started to laugh and for the first moment since I moved into this apartment two years ago, I felt like Brittney and I finally understood each other.
