The shadow person. It found me. It's outside the RV.

I don't have to look out the window to know it. It's a feeling at first. Hits me hard. A tightness in my muscles. Pulls me up like I'm chained to a gurney. An invisible hand tilts my head to look out the window.

There. Look. Coming from within the Man Camp. It starts as a wobbling dot. Then it sprouts arms. Legs. A head. No face.

The night blends in and out with its limbs. Blurs the edges of its shape. But I still know it's there. Coming toward me.

It controls my pulse with its steps. Each one churns my heart faster. Then slower. Then faster again. It's playing with me. Dribbling my heartbeat like a basketball.

I should panic. I want to panic. But I don't.

If I let fear take over, how fast will it run? Will it beat my heart out of my chest?

Or maybe it's not even real. This must be my head. There's no other way.

It moves out of view. I shuffle to the next window. Hope it won't be there. That it's just my imagination.

No. It's there. Still a good distance out. It's pacing now. As if it's making a decision. Then it stares right at me.

A feeling, a word, comes over me. I know it before I hear it. And the voice comes from just behind my right shoulder. It's clear. Crushes the air in my ear. This is not my imagination.

"Seriously," a voice says.

I hear footsteps from inside the RV. They're inches away.

I spin my weight around. There's a shadow against the wall.

What happens next tosses me back to reality.
