They watch from the bench where they were sitting, as paramedics loads the young girl into the back of the ambulance.
"I don't understand what went wrong. I was where I was suppose to be. How could I screw this up?" Tim says, as he runs a hand through his hair. "Why was it a girl? It was suppose to be a guy."
"Can I see your book?" Adam ask.
"By the way, my name is Timothy. But you can call me Tim." He says as he hands Adam his notebook.
Adam smiles and nods as he opens the notebook.
"Ewww, is this written in blood?" He ask while wrinkling his nose.
"Yep." Tim answers as he turns his attention back to the people as they walked by.
"Uh, Tim? Can you read?" Adam ask, looking up from the book.
"Of course I can read. I can't see that well, but I can read. Why?" Tim ask.
"Because this says Erica Hinson not Eric." Adam says, biting his lip and looking at Tim.
"Are you kidding me? Let me see that." He says while grabbing the book out of the Angel's hands. Squinting his eyes, he looks at the writing. "How am I suppose to make these names out anyway. He writes like a chicken scratching. That looks like a smudge. I didn't know it was an A."
He slams the book shut then looks around at the man with the beautiful blue eyes.
"Well, Adam. What's your story?" He asked, turning toward Adam, resting his arm on the back of the bench.
"I'm married, or was. I was the president of the bank here in town." Adam says while staring down at his boots.
"Did you wear the bandana at work?" Tim ask with a smirk.
"No." Adam chuckles. "And then one day, bank robbers came rushing in, shooting up the place. And I got hit with a bullet, I died in surgery. The next thing I knew, I was in Heaven."
"Does it really have streets of gold?" Tim ask in wonder.
"I couldn't tell you. I didn't make it that far. I got to the Pearly Gates and then got sent back here." Adam says with a shrug.
"Well that really sucks." Tim chuckles.
"You telling me. What about you?" Adam ask, turning to face his demon friend.
"Well, like you, I was also married. I've had several affairs. I smoke, drink, cuss, I've done a few drugs. I was coming home one night from the bar. I ran off the right side of the road , over corrected the car, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree. I was killed instantly. I was drunk and wasn't wearing a seat belt." Tim says while tugging lightly at his whiskers.
"What's Hell like?" Adam ask.
"Hot. Very hot." Tim laughs. "So what's your job here or do you have one?"
"I give life to couples who have prayed for a baby. I also have a book of names of the women of these couples." Adam says.
"So you get women pregnant. I'll switch jobs with you." Tim laughs loudly.
Adam laughs. "You know, you're not what I figured a demon would look like."
"What were you expecting? Horns and a forked tail. Only Lucifer has those. But he himself was once a beautiful angel." Tim smirks. "What about you? Where's your robe of white, angel wings and halo."
"Like I said, I never got pass the gate." Adam chuckles. "So what do we do now? My first appointment isn't for another 3 hours."
"Let's see." Tim says looking in his book. "My next one is tomorrow morning at 9:30, in front of the school. Someone by the name of Jenny Crocker. Right?" He holds the book over to Adam.
Adam chuckles as he reads, "Not quite. Your appointment is at 7:30 not 9:30 and the person's name is Tommy Crockett not Jenny Crocker."
"Whatever." Tim grumbles, slamming his book shut. "Do you know what these women look like that you're suppose to get pregnant?"
Adam rolls his eyes as he pulls out of his pocket, a beautiful white book engraved in gold designs.
"Wow." Tim said as he looked down at his black book with the burnt edges.
"I have a full description of the woman along with a picture." Adam says, showing Tim his first appointment.
"Holy Sh*t. Is that gold ink?" Tim ask while running his hand over the writing.
"Yep, my boss writes everything in gold." Adam grins.
"So you want to sit here for three hours or you want to walk around some. I'm bored." Tim ask as he stands up to stretch.
"We could head over to Kingston Avenue. That's were Emilia, my first appointment is suppose to be." Adam says as he stands up.
"Lead the way, oh Holy one." Tim sneers.
"Oh shut up." Adam rolls his eyes while shaking his head.
"Well, that wasn't very nice. No wonder you didn't make it through the Pearly Gates." Tim gripes as they walk down the sidewalk. "I would have kicked you to the sidewalk too."
"Do you never stop talking?" Adam chuckles shaking his head again.
"What else is there to do? Don't eat, don't sleep. Although I do stay thirsty all the time, you know with the heat and all. I'd kill for a gallon of water right now." Tim says as he walks with his hands crammed in his pants pocket.
Adam sighs and looks toward Heaven. "Why me Lord?"
