Chapter 25
Zylen’s P.O.V
Getting off the phone with the Alpha of the Aplecreek Pack I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. I couldn’t believe things had managed to get so bad with the rogue attacks that I needed to acquire another packs help. Pressing send to file all the needed documents to Alpha Matthews at his request I couldn’t help but wonder how my own pack was going to respond to another packs help. I sighed again. I had to let them know what was going on. And it was something I really wasn’t looking forward too. I stood up from the seat I was in at my desk just as my mate and Luna of the pack, Harley walked through the door. She smiled sweetly at me and my heart beat picked up rapidly. She was so beautiful even now after running a pack and having 3 children, she was still as beautiful as the day I first seen her when she was 18. “Hello Alpha” she purred and I growled. She knew how it affected me when she called me that, the little tease that she is. “Luna” I say because I know it winds her up when I call her that, but hey a guys gotta get a little revenge right? I hear her growl. “Now Zylen you know I hate it when you call me that!” she growls out. “Hmm…I don’t think I recall you saying that” I say innocently and she just scowls at me. I tell you if looks could kill I’d be one dead wolf. Speaking of dead I needed to tell her about the Rogues. My face dropped at this thought and I knew she’d notice. “Z. what’s wrong?” she asks softly, all traces of teasing gone, in its place is concern and worry. I sigh. Harley steps towards me, and wraps her arms around my waist, causing my body to instantly relax dramatically. “Z?” she says, worry clearly evident in her tone. “Harley, it’s the rogues…” I say not quite managing to finish the sentence. “What do you mean the Rogues? What are you not telling me Zylen?” she says and I can sense the anger seeping through the worry that laces her words. “I mean there are too many of them for us to handle. I’ve asked the Alpha of Aplecreek Pack to come and assist us” I say dejectedly. She gasps and wraps her arms tighter around me while I nuzzle my head into her neck, inhaling her scent to keep me calm. I hated the fact that a group of good for nothing rogues has managed to cause me so many problems. “Does the rest of the pack know?” she asks after a few moments, lifting her head to look me in the eyes, her violet eyes shining brightly back at me. I shake my head. She sighs. “You need to tell them. They have a right to know. That and if the packs in that much danger, we need more precautions in place. Especially with the children.” she says and I know she’s right. Its why we fit together, she’s always the voice of reasoning when I’m struggling to see sense. “I know, I’m calling a pack meeting to inform everyone. Then they can deal with their children accordingly” I say and she nods. ‘Jace, can you please make sure all pack members, except the children are at the pack house in the next ten minutes for an urgent pack meeting’ I send through pack link to my Beta. ‘Everyone will be there Alpha’ He sent back and I nodded even though he couldn’t see it. “I take it you just pack linked someone?” Harley said. I nodded. “Okay. We best get to the living room then.” I nodded and followed her out of my office, dreading what I was about to tell the pack.
The whole pack was congregated in the back garden of the pack house and they all looked at me with confusion and worry lining their faces. I wished so much as Alpha that I could remove the worry that was shown on their faces, but I couldn’t instead I was about to make it worse and I hated myself for it. I was their Alpha, they relied on me to prevent things getting this far. ‘I’m getting worse at this Alpha thing. I wish the boys were old enough to take over. They would do a better job than me’ I thought as I stood to address the pack. ‘We are not a bad Alpha! Don’t ever say that!’ my wolf growled in my head. I just ignored him, I had more pressing matters to deal with than his stubborn pride. “Good evening Golden Valley” I said simply. I was rewarded with a range of hello’s in response. “I will cut straight to the chase. Basically I have called this meeting to alert you of the Rogue problem we have. We no longer have the strength to deal with them by our selves. It would be a death wish to try. So instead I called in some help from the Aplecreek Pack. They should be here in the next day or two to help us have more force to deal with this rogue problem once and for all. During and until the attack with the rogues, all fighters will have extra training, routine patrols will become more frequent and women and children will be under tighter security to keep them all safe. I know this is not a situation that anyone wanted to hear about, and trust me I hate that I’m having to tell you this, but I thought you had a right to know. You may now go. Further instructions will be given shortly. Thank you.” I say in a mad rush as I watch everyone’s face drop and fear appear on many faces, especially those of the women who I know are thinking about the danger their mates will be in when fighting rogues, but knowing they have no choice but to allow them to fight, for the sake of the pack. Harley squeezes my hand and I wrap my arms around her, my eyes shifting around the room as the pack begin to file out and landing on the grey eyes of my eldest daughter. Bonnie. She looked so defeated. I couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong with her. But there was no point trying to talk to her about it, she wouldn’t tell me anything. “Harls. Do you know what’s wrong with Bonnie?” I ask her as I turn to walk into the pack house. She shakes her head. “No but I have noticed a negative change in her again so I think I’m going to talk to her now. See you in a bit” she says and I nod, kissing her on the lips before watching her disappear towards Bonnie’s room. I sigh once more and decide to go find Jace so I can sort out the schedules for training and patrols.
