Evie’s P.O.V
Bolting as quickly as I could I tried to calm my racing heart as I stood off the photography corridor. ‘Well weren’t you badass there Evie’ my wolf purred sarcastically and I rolled my eyes. ‘So not the time’ I bit back at her. I just heard her sneer before she disappeared once more out the front of my mind. Now I was out from the influence of the Alpha’s presence I could think a bit more clearly. Not that my thoughts were running anymore smoothly. No they were going haywire with my hormones running rampant. Because despite everything that teacher was smokin’! ‘God Evie get a hold of yourself! He is a teacher for god sake!’ I thought to myself sternly.
After my little pep talk with myself I managed to get my body and thoughts quickly back in check, which then had me back to one thought that had me here in the first place. Where the hell was Bonnie? I was actually really worried about her. She was still on the road to recovery from everything with Revan and Lily. Oh god Lily! She’d kick my ass if I got one of her minions hurt! I had to find Bonnie. But where could she be? ‘Think Evie think!’ I chided. ‘The study room!’ I thought suddenly, remembering that’s where we usually were this period. It was the only place I could think of that she’d go. And with that I set off to look for my lost friend.
Entering the study room the silence was almost deafening. Strange comment I know but that’s how it was. It was a little too silent in there if you asked me. But then no one asked me, so you now. ‘Focus Evie’ I thought cutting off my own internal babble. Coming out of my own head I scanned the small bare room, my eyes scanning quickly over the students dotted about the room, until they landed on the very figure I was sourcing. Bonnie was sat slumped over in the farthest corner of the room, looking rather defeated if her body language was anything to go by. ‘My god what’s happened?’ I thought as I practically sprinted over to the other side of the room. “Bonnie?” I whispered as I stood beside her. Though I might as well of shouted with how much the whisper vibrated and echoed around the silent room. ‘Yep still eerie’ I thought as I shook Bonnie softly. She looked up at me, her eyes swollen and red and her face one of complete heartbreak. It made my own heart break. ‘What the hell has caused this?’ I thought confused. Yes she hadn’t wanted to go to her lesson, but she never did. She never usually leaves her lesson looking like this though. “Bonnie. What is wrong hun?” I asked, the concern lacing my voice dramatically. I watched as she just dropped her head not giving me an answer. I sighed. There was no way I was having this. So being me, I dragged Bonnie by the arm, not that she really resisted and hauled her ass out the eerie study room and into a spare classroom.
Shutting the door and locking it I turned to face her. “Right. Now fess up! What’s wrong?” I demanded, fuelled more by determination now than concern. It was then Bonnie burst into tears and my heart clenched in my chest. I hadn’t meant to make her cry. “Bonnie. Shhh I didn’t mean to make you cry. Shhh” I said engulfing her into a hug as she sobbed. “I’m…I’m sorry” she sobbed. I just held her. “Shh it’s okay. Just talk to me Bonnie” I said softly and she nodded. I released her and sat down on the edge of a desk while I waited for her tears to subside and instead be replaced by hiccups. It was all rather heartbreaking to watch.
“He’s…He’s my mate” was all she sobbed out when she finally managed to control her hiccups enough to speak. I just looked at her confused, not quite understanding what she meant. Who was her mate? What? Wait she’d found her mate! “You’ve found your mate!” I exclaimed happily clapping like a weirdo, then I looked at her and how broken she was and realised finding her mate was obviously no fairytale occasion. My mood plummeted. “I have” she said sadly and my heart broke at the pain in her voice. “So what’s wrong?” I asked still a little confused. “HE is my mate!” she repeated and I was still confused, so I just stared at her. Then it clicked into place like the last piece of a finally solved puzzle. “Your photography teacher is your mate isn’t he?” I asked. She nodded and I just stood there shell shocked.
Bonnie’s P.O.V
After finally getting my tears in check for the millionth time this last hour I walked towards a shell shocked Evie. I don’t think she’d been anticipating that about my mate. Hell I hadn’t been wither. I still couldn’t quite believe it. I kept wanting to pinch myself to see if was dreaming. But I knew I wasn’t. The draw I could still feel, pulling me to go find HIM had me convinced it was very real. “Evie! Evie!” I said waving my hand furiously in front of her. “What! Where is the fire!” she said jumping up quickly and nearly falling flat on her face. I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Not funny Bonnie” she said in a mock serious tone which only served to make me chuckle more. “Oh I don’t know looks pretty hilarious from where I’m standing” I said laughing. “Typical!” she said rolling her eyes. I laughed again. “Oh come on. Lighten up” I teased and she laughed. “Alright alright. Only because you asked oh so nicely” she said sarcastically. “Always” I answered sweetly, causing us to burst into a fit of giggles. And in that moment I could forget my mate was my photography teacher. For that moment anyway.
The moment the laughter ceased was the moment the thoughts came crashing back down like a ton of bricks. The weight of it nearly knocking me off my feet. I slumped. “Oh Bonnie. What are you going to do?” Evie asked softly as she wrapped her arms around me, all signs of her teasing gone. “I’m going to have to do the only thing I can do Evie” I said sadly as I thought about what I would have to do. “No. you don’t mean?” she said shocked and I nodded. “I’m going to have to reject him” I said, pain shooting through my body as I said the words and my coyote pacing in pain inside me. She hated the thought more than I did. It was literal tearing her heart out, like it was mine. But what else could I do. We could never be. He was my teacher for god sake! “But Bonnie. You can’t! he’s your mate! True Mates are rare!” Evie exclaimed. I shook my head. “I don’t have a choice. Besides true mates are only rare in wolf shifters” I said softly trying not to show how much this conversation was breaking my heart. “He is a wolf shifter Bonnie!” she said desperately. “He is also my teacher Evie! Or did we forget this one!” I said frustrated. “I know Bonnie. But he is your mate! You guys can find a way to make it work!” she said. I shook my head. “We can’t Evie. We just can’t! I guess this is my punishment for my childhood years. I should of known Karma would catch up to me eventually. Just didn’t realise it would be so cruel” I whimpered. “Oh Bonnie…” Evie began but I just held my hand up. “Don’t I’m coming to terms with my fate. Learning to accept it. As should you. Now come on. I want to go home” I said simply, the need to put some space between me and HIM raging high on my priority list. “Okay Bonnie. Let’s go.” Evie said before we took off towards the office to sign out before we headed out to the wood that led us to the pack house. Every step away from the school I took my heart ached more and more, because I was moving further and further away from HIM. My mate. I knew one thing in that moment.
Rejecting him was going to practically kill me.
