pulled on the straps of my bag and climbed over a fallen tree. The humidity was murdering me slowly. I wiped off the disgusting pool of sweat as it poured down my temple. My hair was plastered to my head and I knew I looked disgusting. Rider handed me a water bottle. I thanked him, gulping down a few sips before handing it back. The cold water felt like magic as it flowed down my throat. Perfect.

"Are we anywhere close to the city?" Trish asked as a weird smog seemed to fill the air. I gripped my laser tightly. I had no idea. I ducked beneath a neabye tree branch and pushed its large leaf out of the way. What in the world? I stopped in my tracks. My body was stiff and I couldn't move a single muscle. I stood star-struck, tears were threatening to well up in my eyes. Sensing something was wrong, Jacob was by my side in a second.

"What's wrong?" he asked. My mouth was dry and I just pointed ahead. He turned his head and his eyes widened. "Good Lord..."

We'd reached the city. The Hell of a city. Black smoke darkened the sky and turned the sun to a red like color. White ash showered down from the sky instead of snow, and there was a ring of police sirens against the buildings. The buildings themselves were made of scrap metal and pieces of window were shattered. Fires broke out from the top of buildings and cars. I covered my nose as thick smell of smoke from the fires filled my nose. A giant projection of The Master's face spanned across the sides of each of the buildings.

"All Elementals must be exterminated. If any are found in your quadrant report them to the government and receive a million dollars in pay. Remember our rules: freedom is earned by those who deserve it. Crime is acceptable. And those who help the weak, will be killed." The same lines repeated over and over again.

My breath was weak as we continued to move as close as we could without getting noticed. Giant vultures circles over the crime-driven city. There was a distant screaming of a woman and a yelling of a man down the countless allyways. Not to my surprise, wanted pictures of my friends and I were stapled to the side of the decaying buildings. I jumped as gunshots went off nearby along with an explosion resulting in another formation of fire.

So this is what Adian had been doing while were were frozen. He had destroyed the world. He and his lab mutations had caused chaos everywhere. Man-kind didn't even know who they were anymore. Elementals were locked up in labs, forced to do as he commanded, and most likely scared. All the while, he was trying to find a way to steal their powers and get the Ethra. Once the Ethra was in his hands it very well could be the end. He would have all he needed to claim the rest of the world. That couldn't happen.

I shakily watched as the city burned. The challenge to escape the lab was complete. Though that was barely half of the battle. This is so much bigger than that. Now, this was different. So many people were going to die. Though if I managed to succeed we would be saving billions of others.

The War between the Elementals and the mutations had begun.
