Almost Human

Chapter 44: Beyond

I squinted to look above the treetops. The beautiful sun twinkled down. I closed my eyes and felt it's warmth on my skin. Mission: escape with the other Elementals...complete.

I rolled over in my sleeping bag to see Jacob sleeping. Rider had run to go get everyone basic supplies. I honestly appreciated everything he'd done. Jacob's hazel eyes popped open and he smiled as he saw me. I pulled myself out on my sleeping bag and sat on my knees. Jacob crawled over to me and held my face in his hands.

"You're okay," he whispered. I nodded. He placed his forehead against mine and closed his eyes. "I was so worried about what would happen to you."

"Oh come on. You know how much of a fighter I am. I had to make sure you guys were alright," I smiled.

"Much better now that you're here," he whispered. Jacob pressed his soft lips against mine and we pulled apart. I was so lucky to have him. What would I do if he were gone? I brushed his black hair from his face and looked at his handsome face.

"It's so amazing to be free," I exclaimed as I glanced around at the trees. A butterfly fluttered around us and I laughed lightly. It was beautiful.

"It's amazing to be free with you," Jacob agreed. "We can finally decide what happens to us." I nodded in agreement. I pulled myself off the ground and helped him up.

Zane was already up and by the looks of it, sharpening his knife. "So what's the plan your highness?"

"Oh please don't start calling her a bunch of royal stuff," Trish groaned as she rolled over in her sleep. I laughed and rolled my eyes. Even after it all, Trish was still Trish.

"I say we meet our new-comers," Lily suggested. We turned to the two Elementals who were frozen. They were both still in their white lab outfits. Hopefully we could get them some real clothes at some point.

The boy stood up first. He had stunning corn blonde hair and his eyes were...silver. He looked deadly. "My name is Rick. My power is this thing called....The Sight. I can find any Elemental, anywhere without ever meeting them." That would prove to be helpful. That's exactly how we would find the other labs. "I can also speak to people in their minds." Like Adian could. I disliked the thought but thankfully this was someone who's on our side.

The girl stood up next. She had purple hair that was braided in dreds all the way down to her waist. I wasn't sure if it were done that way, or natural. She looked about seventeen and she seemed much more sure of herself than she had when we rescued her. "My name's Zoey. More power is teleportation. I can go anywhere if I can envision where I'm going. I can teleport other people if they grab onto me." Also helpful. Just our luck.

Just as I was about to introduce myself, Zane interrupted, "We explained everything that was going on. They're on our side and have agreed to help."

Jimmy nervously spoke out, "So what is the plan now?" I couldn't help but to smile, knowing he was alright. Last time I saw him, he was bleeding from too much strength in his power.

I tightened my jaw, "We're going to walk. Which way? No idea. We justneed to get to the nearest city."

"What for?" Trish asked judgmental.

"Because," I replied mockingly, "I need to see the city. I have to see what it's like first. I just have to see what The Master has turned the world into. Then, we will rescue the others."

Rider nodded his head, "Sounds like a plan."

"So we just start walking?" Zane asked.

"Go North. I believe there's something there," Rick suggested.

I smiled, "Alright. Lead the way." He began walking into the brush of the forest and I followed.

My heart pounded. What would the city look like? How close were we? What would happen once we get there? I shrugged the thought off as Jacob gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. We would make it. All of us.

Mission: help other Elementals was now a go.
