Conor's house
Conor's pov

"Hey guys" *cough*cough* "how was school?"

"Conor! You shouldn't be out of bed!" Yelled Ashley at the sick boy.

During the weekend, Conor thought it would be a great idea to stick a used sucker in his mouth. And now, he's sick in bed with the flu.

"I'm fine. So, what did I miss?" He sat up from the couch he had been laying on, only to fall on his back once more from feeling light headed.

"You missed two tests, a pop quiz, an essay is due tomorrow with 500 words about the civil war, and it was popcorn chicken day." Listed Franklin

"Noon!" *cough* "Not popcorn chicken day!" He groaned, his voice raspy. Franklin went to go fetch Conor some hot water.

"And, I have a date!" In came Wendell.

"What now? Is it another rival? Supermodel? Or is this one also made up?" Asked Ashley

"I'll have you know, she is very much real. I met my angel at Game Stop." He swooned

"Come on Wendell. How many times have we told you to not make up a lie." Groaned Conor

"I'm offended!" Wendell reached for his chest in a dramatic manner "She is real! Our date is tonight, at Billy's"

"Romantic" Sassed Ashley

Jackie's pov

"Okay Phil, I'm heading out!" I shout out to my supervisor. I wanted to leave work early in time to make dinner for the date at Billy's.

The kid came in the other day, his sights determined to find a specific game. When I spoke up to ask him what he was looking for, he completely forgot about the game. He began flirting with me, got close to me and it was all just really creepy. Then he asked about a kiss. I told him I only kiss after a date. And, now, the situation is pretty obvious. That boy was so weird, and yet so curious. For some unknown reason I wanted to go on this date. It's like some kind of mold growing on me, or maybe a fungus.

--

"Hey Billy!" I walked in, Billy clearly confused as to why I've shown up so early. I explained to him what happened, and he let me into my 'personal office', or the kitchen. I look to find an apron, but to my surprise there was one there with my name on it.

"Ya like it? I had it ordered just for ya. You've been cookin so much, I figure it be about time ya got an apron of ya own."

It was beautiful, for an apron. It was my favorite color, ocean blue. I slid the top part over my head, and wrapped the strings around my waist, and got to work.

--

"Alright, I've finished Billy! I'm heading home to change, can you make sure the food stays warm?"

"No problem! May I ask who you'll be on a date with?"

"He never told me his name."

"Again? Girl, you need to start asking for these guys names!"

"I know, but names are only names. I recognize people by their faces, not names." I replied. But one face, I'll always remember his name...

I skateboarded back to the restaurant, in a short blue dress, with heels and accessories to match. Yeah that's right, I can pull off a dress and a skateboard.

I walked in, to prepared our table, placing the dishes on the table. I already asked him what he wanted before hand. Crab burgers. I prefer the fish and chips myself, but hey, that's just me.

After I had finished setting up the table, in came my date, followed by a short boy and a blonde girl holding her phone up, as if she's recording the date.

"Nun uh, out with you two!" Demanded Billy, "You shall not ruin this date!"

"Wow, I'm surprised you care for me that much Billy." Stated my date, dramatically placing a hand over his chest.

"No you thimble, not for you, for her!" He pointed the spatula that he held in his hands towards me. I don't know why he has one, I was the one who did all the cooking.

"Billy, it's fine. I don't mind. Besides, you know this isn't my first date, right?"

"I know, but... I want this one to be one of your good ones. I want you to finally have a good date. Fine, you two can stay." He sighed in defeat.

"Three actually"*cough*cough*

I look at the phone the girl held in her hand and noticed she was video chatting with someone.

"We needed to see proof that Wendell here actually aquired a date for once, with a normal girl. Conor couldn't come, he's been sick all week."

"Oh, the poor boy. I'll whip up some chicken soup for him, for when ya leave. And Jackie here, is no normal girl!" Said Billy

"Billy! Stop, I'm not that great!" I cried in defense

"Stop being so modest. You are too. Wendell you treat her good tonight, ya hear me? Or else I'll put shrimp in ya food for a week." Threatened Billy.

"No! Not the shrimp!" Cried Wendell

--

"Dinner was great! Billy's food is good, but this was better. I wonder what he did different?" Asked Wendell

"Actually I made it." I corrected

"You?" He scoffed with laughter "okay, sure. I'll let you pretend to be chef tonight babe."

What the heck? Why did he doubt that I made the dinner? "Don't call me babe. I had fun and all, but I think I better leave."

I got up ready to walk out, when Billy came back from preparing the chicken soup, he demanded I come back. I did what he said, though unsure what he was trying to do.

"Jackie, listen. You may leave Wendell on this date. But, I want you to enroll in their school."

"You know I can't. And you know why Billy."

"I know, but you must. There's a spare room in the back you may stay in. I want you to quit your job and work here for me. I need you. I also want you to go to a proper school. I want you to go to Mondale High."

"Even if I wanted to do all of it. One, I love my job. Two, I need a guardian of some sorts. And three... Okay so I don't have a three, but I don't have a legal guardian."

"You do now. Jackie, awhile back, after I heard about your life situation, I got a legal document to say I'm your legal guardian. Jackie, please do it for Dear ol' Billy. You'll love it at Mondale High."

"He's right, it's great there. Something new happens every week." Called the boy in the phone, only to cough afterwards.

I thought about it for a moment. I finally decided to give in, I guess I'm going to public school now.
