Jackie's Pov
After a couple of months, Conor and I decided we should move in together. I had to move some things around. In a little drawer, I had found the Caribbean blue hair piece Conor bought me so many years ago. As I'm reminiscing, Conor walks in and see what I'm staring at."Do you remember that day?" He wrapped his arms around me, giving me a back hug. "I remember how hard it was to plan out." I elbowed him slightly. He let out a chuckle. "It's weird, I still remember the man in perfect memory. I'll never forget what he told me. 'You remind me of my Late wife.' She must've been stunning."
"Yeah, I wish I saw his face better."
Knock knock
"Conor? Could you get that? I still have a couple of boxes to fill."
"Yeah, no problem."
I heard the front door open and a deep 'hello'.
"Babe, could you come here?"
"Yeah, give me a quick sec." I brushed my hands of and jogged over to the door. "Who is it?"
"Well." He stepped aside and revealed a man I hadn't seen in about twenty years "Dad?"
"Dad? I thought it was that flower vendor from our first date."
I covered my mouth to try and muffle my gasp, "You mean to tell me that was you who gave me this?" I asked holding up the hair clip.
"It was your mother's, I know she would've wanted you to have it, may I come in?" I nodded my head, too shocked to be mad.
"I've visited a doctor recently. My health, they say I won't make it another year." Tears began to well up in my eyes. "But uh, any chance I'll be a grandfather?" He had asked to lighten the mood.
Conor was about to shake his head no, but I stopped him, rubbing my tummy. "Actually." I trailed off. Conor looked at me with such a bright and hopeful face.
"You mean. I'll be a dad?" His face split open with teeth showing. He picked me up and spun me around. I looked over to my father and saw he had a gummy smile.
Less than nine months later...
Cradled by the newlywed couple, was a beautiful baby girl. Blond hair and brown eyes. She has her dad's noes and her mom's smile.
Where's mom and dad?
Front row in a church again within two weeks, the week before was spent in the hospital for mom to give birth to the precious child. Grandpa was the third to see the precious child, he asked 'what did you name her'
'Laurel' the couple said in unison
The name made the man tear up 'your mother would be proud of you.'
There were tears shed from the grandfather, the parents, and the young child.
Today more tears are shed from the group, same amount, one leas person. In front of the newlyweds lay the grandfather, cold and lifeless.
"Our struggles make us a stronger person. I as an Individual know plenty of the struggles of life. I'm blessed to have had my father back in my life for about nine months now, and even happier he got to see our daughter so he may share with my mother, up in Heaven, how beautiful she is, and maybe tell her how much she is missed. As a mother myself now, I want my family to live happy and without struggles. But it can't happen, because if it were so, we'd be weak, I want my family to be strong for the day I pass, for when the day my husband passes." Whipping a tear away, "so thank you dad, for making me strong."
Thank you for your support, I hope you all become strong so you may pass it on to the future generation.
