'Are you sure we're in the right place Jamie?' I ask unsurely.
Jamie nods. 'Yup. Your mum moved after she got a new job down as a librarian at the local library.'
Why didn't she tell me?
'Oh..ok.'
Jamie gets out. Joe and I follow suit.
'So I shall show you to your room. Am I correct in thinking you are staying until you find you own place?' Jamie asks, taking a key that was buried in soil in the plant pot that was beside the door and unlocking it casually.
'Yeah. But I'm sure it won't be long. Brisbane houses are pretty cheap compared to England.' I say.
Joe stays completely silent.
As he opens the door my mouth falls open and both Joe and I gasp.
We stand in a wide foyer with a wooden floor and double doors going off either side. There's a double staircase in dark, birch wood. It spirals to the right and goes to another landing above with engraved railings (coincidentally in wood). There's another door the the left of the staircase which is also a double door and I can see a planked patio and a curved pool.
'Right so do you want the tour or your room first?' Jamie asks, pulling me out of my trance.
'Room. I need to get rid of my bags.' I smile.
Joe still says nothing.
'Right well you two are in the Mezzanine.'
'My mum has a mezzanine?' I say surprised.
'Oh yes she does. Now if you follow me up here...' Jamie says, walking up the double staircase and to another staircase which goes up straight and is in the wall. There a floor lights and it smells of wood.
We enter another set of double doors and enter the mezzanine.
It has a sloped ceiling and big French Windows which lead out to a balcony overlooking the pool and the sandy expanse of the outback.
There's a walk-in-wardrobe and a en suite with marble floor and a big floor to ceiling mirror.
'How much did this house cost?' I say, my mouth practically trailing along the floor.
'About 30,000. Give or take a few.' Jamie says casually flicking the light switch on to the walk in wardrobe.
'Jesus.' I mutter, dumping my suitcase and carry on bag on the bed. Joe puts his gently on the floor, still saying nothing.
'And now for the tour?' Jamie asks questionably.
I nod and he turns all the lights off and walking out the door, Joe closes it sullenly behind him.
I sigh.
'So you are the only bedroom on this floor but we do have the gaming room.' Jamie says, going through some doors into another sloped ceiling area with a massive TV, Xbox, Ps4, Table Football and sofas and beanbags scattered everywhere.
Once we had a good look around Jamie closes the door and goes down the stairs.
'Here is the main bathroom, every room has an en suit it's just for some reason there's another bathroom here.' Jamie says, opening the door to another marbled floored bathroom with a bath fitted into the corner and a massive shower.
He gives us a quick look and closes the door.
We go down the main stairs, not bothering to look at the other 4 bed rooms.
'We have the kitchen.' Jamie gestures graciously to the kitchen.
It's massive.
There's a black marbled island in the middle with a sink and six hobs. It has curved cupboards made white wood and there's countertops running along the side - also in black marble.
There are coloured lights underneath both the countertops and the island.
It's got a white tiled floor and it goes into a wide, open area. Surrounded by windows. There's a big oak table in the middle with a large crystal chandelier.
And more French Windows leading out to the pool.
'She sure went to town with this old thing.' I say aghast.
'Yeah you could say that.' Jamie laughs.
Both Joe and I stay silent and Jamie coughs awkwardly.
'No? Ok... Well, I'll leave to unpack and Timothy will be back at 5 and your mum back at 3.' And he leaves the room in a hurry.
