I pull at Joe's hand.
'Stop.' I whisper.
He stops and puts his arm around me.
Everyone is crowded around the fireman who brought Alexa out of the fire.
People are muttering and whispering and so I walk towards them.
'Joe...Joe, look.' I say, pointing at them.
'What?'
I say nothing and continue my pursuit towards the crowd.
A doctor is squatting next to Alexa on the ground. He looks up just as the crowd parts and I come through.
'Is she ok? Is she alive?' I croak, my voice barely audible through the tears.
The doctor checks her pulse.
'She's alive... But hardly. She's in a coma.' He says sullenly.
As soon as those words leave his mouth, a breath that I didn't know I was holding in was released and I collapsed into Joe's arms.
But as I come to the realisation that: being a coma is worse than being dead to be honest. Being dead, there's no possibility of them coming back but with a coma there's the possibility and it weighs you down. Entering your thoughts all the time.
I sigh.
'When can we see her?' I ask the doctor.
'Who are you in relation to Alexa?' The doctor asks me as if he just woke up.
I look at Joe. I look at the doctor. I look at Alexa in the ground.
'Sister, brother-in-law.' I mumble.
Joe squeezes my hand.
'Sorry?'
'Sister and brother-in-law.' I say louder.
The doctor nods and takes a clipboard from the medical board.
'Right well if you write down your details, we will contact you within three or four days - unless there is any drastic change in her body's behaviour.'
And with that, he gathers his clipboard, his bag, pats me on the back and leaves.

After the hospital deal, I am 'released'. Joe and I sit on the sofa, a bowl of popcorn between us and Joe's arm around me.
We're watching Mean Girls because Joe has never seen it.
So I made him.
'Joe?'
'Yeah?'
'Where do you picture yourself in 20 years?' I ask, the idea popping into my head.
Joe sighs and kisses my forehead.
'Anywhere with you.' He whispers.
I blush.
'Me too.' I whisper back.
'I love you.' He whispers.
'I love you too.' I say.
He kisses me and as soon as he does the kiss deepens and his tongue enters my mouth.
I tangle my fingers in his hair. He lifts my hips up onto him and puts his hands on my waist.
I pull away and look at him pointedly.
He bites his lip and looks at me.
'Should we?' I whisper.
'Ugh please I can't wait.' Joe says deeply.
I can feel his growing manhood against me and I smile.
'Let's go.'
We go down to his bedroom and he immediately takes off his shirt.
I take off mine and lie on the bed.
He joins me and we kiss again.
And we take off the rest so we are exposed to each other...
~~~~~~~~~
It's been 24 hours since Joe and I had sex for the first time.
I'm at work early for once.
I'm chilling with Tilly and just gossiping when I run to the loo.
I throw up and kneel on the ground.
I groan and clutch my stomach.
But as soon as I recover slightly I realise what this could mean.
I race back to Studio A and go up to John.
'John? Please can I go the pharmacy?' I whisper, not wanting anyone to hear.
'As long as your are back in 10 minutes Emma.' He says, immediately going back to checking the lighting.
I thank him and run to the chemist.
There's a queue and I sigh, tapping my foot impatiently.
The lady in front of me goes and I walk up to the counter.
'Pregnancy test please.' I mumble.
The woman nods and brings out a little box.
'Has it been 24 hours since your last intercourse?' She asks me.
I nod.
'And have you been feeling symptoms of vomit and headaches?'
'Yes.' I say.
'Ok. Instructions are inside. And that will be £15.40.'
I give her the money and walk out.
~~
As I get back to work I excuse myself and go to the toilet.
The instructions aren't hard, just odd. It says wait two minutes so I sit on the loo seat and wait.
After a while I check it.
It's blue.
That's positive.
I'm pregnant.
Shit.
