I wake up the sound of my phone.
BLARP BLARP BLARP BLAR-
I turn it off and roll over in bed, closing my eyes again. But they shoot open again when I come to the realisation that the alarm is for work.
Work.
I curse under my breath and jump out of bed, stubbing my toe in the process.
I hop around for a few seconds, clutching my toe in agony but continue to run through the the house once the pain slightly subsides.
I grab a cereal bar out of the cupboard and race downstairs again once done.
Since I work in fashion I have to wear the it clothes and - judging by my wardrobe - I don't have any so I chuck on a Brandy Melville top, boyfriend jeans, Adidas SuperStars, Abercrombie hoodie and do a messy high ponytail.
I then shove my Apple Air into an Adidas bag along with my CV, ID card and the latest Vogue magazine.
I check my phone.
I've got 5 minutes to get there and it's in central London.
Shit.
I run outside and lock it quickly, glancing at Joe's door but running to the lift anyway.
Of course, the world is against me and the lift takes forever so as soon as it pings open, I hop it and press the ground floor.
Once I get down I race outside again and hail a taxi.
'Piccadilly Circus please.' I ask the driver hurriedly.
~~~~~~~
The building is big and glassy. Hard to miss. The contradiction is huge compared to the dirty outback.
I walk in. It took under 5 minutes to get here. I didn't know I was so close.
The receptionist sits at the desk, reading an ELLE magazine.
I walk up to her and she looks up at me.
'Emma Matthews, I'm the new intern at Elle Magazines.' I say, showing my ID.
She looks at it and furrows her eyebrows.
'I'm sorry miss but you're not an intern.' She says.
What?
'But I applied for an internship in fashion.... My CV-' I stutter.
She cuts me off.
'Did they ask you for photos?' She snaps, clearly getting impatient.
'Yes. But what that got to do with...?' I retort, confused.
'You're internship was in modelling. That's why they asked you for photos.' She explains, her tone slightly softer but only marginally.
'A model?' I gasp.
'Yes! Now..you're 3 minutes late, you're fellow intern will be waiting in studio A.' She says, pointing to the right down a long corridor.
'Thank you.' I managed and I turn down the corridor.
A model? Me? But I thought.. Mind you, they didn't say anything about what I was applying for, the just asked for photos. And I did think it rather odd but..
I turn into Studio A where a beautiful girl sits, on her phone.
She's absolutely stunning. Hands down.
She has beach curls and brown hair with blonde-ish streaks. Probably natural. She has big blue eyes with long lashes that practically touch her cheeks. Her eyes are bright and are complimented by her high cheekbones and dimples. Her lips are pink, completely natural and white, straight teeth. I realise that I'm staring at her so I shake my head and walk up.
'Hey! I'm Emma,' I say brightly. She looks and me and smiles warmly.
'Oh hey. I'm Tilly.' She says and stands up.
'Do you know what's going on?' I ask.
'Not really, no.' She laughs.
I laugh too.
'Hey.. Where are you from?' Tilly asks me. 'Just that your accent is awesome.'
'Oh I'm from Australia, near Perth.' I say.
'Lucky! I've always wanted to go Australia.'
'Well us Aussies won't say the same if you ask me.' I joke. 'We all complain. Too hot: complain. Too cold: complain. Koala up the tree in our garden: complain.'
Just as Tilly opens her mouth to speak a little guy in a pink shirt and a grey waistcoat appeared. If I looked out the corner of my eye I would've mistaken him with a Leprechaun. He wears floral beach shorts, which seem to go with the shirt surprisingly. A black, corduroy flat cap sits on a shiny, bald head and a tartan scarf adjourned his neck.
He claps his hands, making both me and Tilly jump.
'Aren't you two just scrumptious!' He says, the American equivalent of Alan Carr.
(A/N: Look him up, seriously he's hilarious)
He shakes us both by the hand vigorously.
'I'm Stephen. That's with a 'ph' and not a 'v'. It's a pleasure to meet you two!' He says excitedly, jumping up and down and clapping again.
'I will be your agent, so if you follow me..' He says, and walks out of the Studio and into the corridor.
Tilly and I exchange a look and I raise an eyebrow.
'Now we won't be doing any modelling today, just going through the basics and-,' He pauses, looking Tilly and I up and down, '-what to wear to work clearly.' He says in mock disgust.
'Ah! Through here we go!' He goes through some double doors and they swing open dramatically.
And there, sitting casually on a stool, is the one person I would rather die than see again.
Eric.
