Kevin's PoV
I watched as Kirstie wrote on a piece of notebook paper. She was biting her tongue and she seemed very concentrated."Kirst, are you sure you're up for this? With all of the stuff you haven't said about the time you did this before..." I say, trailing off and she looks up from her concentrated writing to catch my eyes.
"Kevin, I'm positive. I'm scared as heck, but I'm going to do it. I can't stand to see any of the people I've come to care about be in this place any longer. We've all been here for 12 years, and so I think it's finally time for us to go home." She says and I nod, but the doubt is still clearly seen in my eyes.
"All I'm saying is, we care about you too. We know you're not as friendly or as outgoing as Scott or Mitch normally are, but you are part of this family now. And family sticks together. And I know that none of us want you to get potentially hurt from this venture. That's all." I say and she stops writing and gives me a small hug, and I hug her back.
"I know Kev. I do. I just can't be here anymore. So, here. Take this paper. I'm about to go to training and or the simulator, so you need to hide this when they come. And then read it silently. I know you'll know what to do." She whispers quietly and I look at her, confused beyond words.
"What? Kirst, I don't understand." I say and she gives me a side smile.
"You don't have to." She replies and the door opens, and Scott comes back in.
"You ok?" Kirstie asks immediately, standing up and grabbing the other boys arm lightly, and he smiles brokenly at her, and shakes his head.
With that, she pulls him into a tight hug. Scott hugs her tightly back, and I smile. I actually smile. I don't remember the last time I did that.
Kirstin then walks out of the room, and I hide the note in my back pocket, and Scott comes and sits down next to me, and we watch as Kirstin is taken from our sight.
I then proceed to pull the note out of my pocket and Scott looks at me.
"What's that?" He asks me curiously and I look at him, my eyes still looking partly at the door.
"A note that Kirstin just gave me. I haven't read it yet." I say and he looks at me worriedly.
"Open it." He says and I do, and we both begin to read the note.
Hello Kevin. I know that this is a bit secretive and that I've been secretive and I'm sorry. I've written this note to let you know that when I come back from training, I will knock out the men escorting me and go straight to the control center. When the alarm sounds, you all need to be ready to run out of that door. But, Kevin, I need some major help. I need you to hack into the back panel of this room. I need you to disable the camera in the corner, so that they don't know that you have left the room. Once you have that done, get Scott, Mitch and Avi and get the heck out of here. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT WAIT FOR ME!! Get the heck out of this place and just go. I'll get out, I promise. Do not let Scott hold you all back. If you have to knock him out, sobeit. Do not let him stay here before I find you guys. So, do these things and you will get out. ~Kirstin Taylor Maldonado
Scott looks at me and he turns away, before Mitch and Avi come into the room, and the two obviously see something wrong with the two of us.
"Kevin, Scott? What the heck happened in here?" Avi asks and neither of us can say a word. I simply stand up and go to the back panel, and I start doing exactly what Kirstin instructed me to do.
"Scott, what happened? Kevin, what are you doing?" Mitch demands and I don't answer, but this time Scott does.
"She's doing it. She's getting us out of here. She's having Kevin disable the camera and she's instructed us not to wait for her. But to just get the hell out of here. And she says she's sorry that she's been so secretive with us." Scott says and both of our friends don't say anything, or more likely can't say anything.
"When the alarm goes off, be ready to go. So if you have anything of importance, grab it." I say as I get the panel opened and I start messing with wires, that are hooked to the multiple cameras around this room.
Avi goes to his levitating bed and grabs a small piece of paper, which he delicately folds, and places in his back pocket. It's his only possession; he's never shared it with anyone, not even me. I wish I knew what it said; maybe I'd understand the complexity of Avriel Kaplan a little bit more then.
Mitch goes to his levitating bed and he grabs a small bag, with contents that I don't know, but I bet that Scott knows. Scott doesn't grab anything; he just stands next to me, silent and solemn. I knew that I shouldn't have let him read that note with me; he really cares about Kirstin, almost as much as he cares about Mitch, I think.
I connect two wires and then an odd sound appears, and I grin, and I quickly run over to my bed, and I grab my bag and I sling it over my shoulder.
"You ready, boys?" I ask, nervous beyond words, and they all nod, Scott somewhat hesitantly.
I'm about to say something else when the alarm begins to blare. I look at the others and we run out of the door, the alarm blaring deafening.
We run through hallways, hoping that we are going the right way. I see that Scott is lagging behind us and he stops, and the rest of us skid to a halt.
"Scott! Come on!" Mitch screams at him and Scott looks back at us, the desperation in his eyes more than I can handle.
"I-I can't leave her." He says and he takes off back down the hall, the rest of panicking now more than we already had been.
"SCOTT!" Mitch screams after the blonde and he takes off after Scott, leaving me and Avi no choice but to chase after our friends.
