Chapter Twenty-Nine

In order to avoid trouble with Mother I tell her that I'm going to be working on the project with Veronica. Seeing as we told her about it, I might as well use it as a legitimate reason to be out of the house. Mother asks me about my clothes of course but when I tell her that it's just something I threw on, she asks me to change before I leave to go out. I oblige and change clothes, taking the other ones with me in a bag. Mother doesn't even notice something is going on.

I'm close to Aiden's house when a thought suddenly hits me. Everyone at school has seen me today. Aiden didn't see me at the party the other night, but surely he heard the rumors around school.

I decide to swing by a local clothing store and buy a couple things. I grab a black beanie that looks interesting on the model and a black leather jacket. There's some ridiculous looking ripped jeans at the knees and I grab them as well. When I'm about to pay, a woman comes up to me with a pair of high top shoes. I don't know what they're called, but I accept them. I pay for the new clothing with the "emergency" credit card Mother gave me to use "responsibly" and then go to a changing stall to put them on.

I strip off the clothes I put on so I could leave the house and replace them with the clothes I bought. I left my white shirt in the car so I'll have to put that on later.

As I put on the beanie, covering my curls, I realize that my glasses seriously give me away. They're too signature of Marcel. I'd have to go blind once again at the party.

I grab my clothes I changed out of and leave the store, waving goodbye to the staff. When I get to my car I throw the clothes in the back seat and take the white shirt out. I remove the leather jacket, put on the shirt, then wear the jacket once again. My outfit is complete.

Finally, I drive to Aiden's house, feeling good about myself. I'm feeling a rush of adrenaline in my body and I just want to ride the wave. I'm going to prove Veronica likes me tonight.

I park my car a couple houses down since there's literally no parking available anywhere. Tonight the house is packed even tighter with people. I leave my glasses in the car, make sure my curls are hidden, then walk confidently towards Aiden's house. It's all about confidence and seeming like I've got it all planned out.

I'm greeted by drunks in the front yard and I say my hellos before excusing myself to get some beer. My disguise is working since no one has appeared to notice me.

"Oh hello," someone purs in my ear and suddenly grabs my waist, pulling me against them. I look down at the same blonde I had talked to only a couple hours ago. The one who called me King of Dweebs.

How ironic.

"You are so fucking sexy in that jacket," she giggles and pulls it tight on me, drawing my closer to her body. I can smell the alcohol on her. She wears it heavily like perfume.

"Please excuse me." I pull away from her grasp and spin her towards another guy. She falls into him, wrapping herself around him tightly. I walk away.

The room smells of sweat and alcohol. I wonder why Aiden is allowed to throw so many constant parties. Do his parents ever care about his activities? Mother would not allow me to do such a thing.

In the kitchen, Vic is once again on a cooler with some friends, a drink in his hand. It's like déjà vu but without Veronica by my side.

"Clark!" He jumps up when he sees me. "Where you been man?" He pounds his fist against mine, a wide smile across his face.

Wow, either he's seriously drunk or he has a terrible ability to not see the obvious. He doesn't even realize he hit me in the school hallways.

"A couple other parties caught my interest," I lie cockily. If I'm going to do this tonight then I'm just letting go. "Yeah, got a couple invites from Frats."

"YOOO! FRATS, DUDE! Man I'm wishing I live your life!" Vic exclaims, giving me another fist pound. Apparently they don't just do that as a greeting.

"I'll invite you to come sometime," I tell him.

"That's my man!" He cheers and pulls me over to the coolers. He opens one and takes out a beer can. "Enjoy."

I take the can and pop it open. The boys all cheer around me and I yell as well, acting like a normal guy. It feels so good. I tip my head back and gulp the entire beer, forcing myself to not gag from the taste. It's still vile, but I know how to hold it down.

"Damn, we taught you well!" Vic claps me on the back and hands me another.

"Thanks man. Anyone see Aiden around?" I ask casually, opening the can and drinking this one slower. I don't want to get too drunk too quickly.

"He's with the tables outside. There isn't a single person who can beat him at beer pong and yet people always try. Idiots I tell you. Idiots."

"I'm going to go talk to him. Catch up with you guys later," I wave my can at them and they say their goodbyes.

I head out the back door and join the crowd of people. There's multiple tables set up throughout the patio area and teens are gathered around all of them. There's cups everywhere.

I spot Aiden by the center table. His black hair isn't hidden behind a beanie tonight. It's sweat-filled and falls into his face. I watch him raise a toned arm, a small ball between his fingers, and then throw it forward. It lands in the single cup across the table.

"SHIT!" The guy exclaims and grabs the cup, tossing his head back and drinking.

"Drink up, big boy!" Aiden yells triumphantly and gestures to the cups in front of him. There's about five cups and the opponent drinks them as well. "Anyone else want to lose tonight?" Aiden boasts.

No one answers and they start heading towards other tables, watching other games. I take the opportunity and go over to Aiden.

"Hey, can I ask you a question?" I try to say with confidence but he's seriously huge compared to me.

Aiden starts rearranging the cups into a pyramid from in front of him. "Go ahead man."

I didn't think it would be that simple. "Okay, well how do you feel about Veronica?"

Aiden freezes, still hunched over the table with cups in his hands. "Vee? She here tonight?"

"I don't know," I shrug. Aiden continues to stack cups again. "Well?" I prompt.

"She's fun," he answers nonchalantly.

"Are you two in a serious relationship?"

Aiden looks up from his cups and glares at me. I try not to cower under his light blue eyed gaze. He searches my eyes and squints. I worry that he's figured me out.

He straightens up and crosses his arms. "You like her?" What? Did I say that? "You've got that weird look in your eyes. Don't worry kid, she does that to everyone," he mutters and shakes his head, turning his attention to the table. He starts pouring beer into the cups.

"You didn't answer my question," I state. "Are you two in a serious relationship?"

"Look," Aiden snaps, holding the beer can towards me angrily, "I don't hold these parties to play twenty fucking questions. But, I'll make you a deal," he says, lowering the can.

"What deal?"

He grins at me and it sends shivers down my spine. "One round of beer pong. You win and I'll answer any questions you have."

"And if I lose?" The chance of me winning is a really low percent.

"I throw you into my pool." Okay, that doesn't sound too bad. "Naked," he adds and I force my jaw not to drop open.

"Can't you just answer my question?" I'm not really a fan of the losing option.

"Take it or leave it. I've got better things to waste my time on," Aiden says, pouring more beer into cups.

I sigh. What the hell, why not?

"Deal," I answer.

Let the games begin.
