Detention

Ellie, Hadley, Aiden and Justin sit with a few juniors outside of detention hall. Ellie starts to look for Audrie. If Audrie couldn't get into detention the only other thing to do was to sneak into it. Ellie was pretty certain that Audrie would do one or the other. Technically there was five minutes left of class so Audrie still had time.

Everyone waits as quietly as they can for the bell to ring. A few people worked on homework, and a another group of people sat on their phones. This was about the longest five minutes of Ellie's young life. Aiden reached over and grabbed her hand and smiles at her. She laughs and squeezes his hand before shoving him away from her.

"You got me in here to begin with!" She says and rolls her eyes.

"What?" Hadley and Justin say in sync. Ellie laughs at their reaction. Hadley speaks up, "Did you two get caught in the taco truck again?" She demands.

"That was one time and nothing was even happening!" Aiden says irritably. Hadley laughs at his reaction.

"How come I never heard about the taco truck thing?" Justin asks.

"Because Janice started it and you avoid her." Ellie says. "I swear all that happened was that we were working it and then I kissed him. Then we may or may not have made out." Ellie says avoiding their looks.

"So adorable! I wanna be kissed in a taco truck that smells like dead fish." Hadley laughs at Justin's face that is in clear disbelief.

They sit in silence again. Why did this five minutes take so long. All they wanted was to be in and out of detention. Especially because they had a butt load of homework to do tonight. Finally after what seemed like forever the bell rang. Ellie and Hadley stayed outside to search for Audrie. However there was no sign of her.

"I guess she failed at Plan A." Ellie mumbles to herself. "Now Plan B."

Everyone is now sitting in detention in silence especially Justin. Mrs. Reese just sits and stares at them. Sometimes she made them sing. Sometimes she made them clean. Other times Mrs. Reese would just sit and yell at them for being delinquents. That was always great fun. Today was the rare sit and do nothing day. Not that anyone had a problem with being lazy.

There was a small knock on the door. Mrs. Reese was in such a good mood that she went and opened it with little skips in her step. No one really knew why she was so happy. Normally she was mad that she got put in charge of detention. Honestly who wouldn't be mad about being stuck in a stuffy room with bad children.

Behind the door was Audrie. She awkwardly stood there and searched for Justin with her eyes. Once she found him she waved at him and smiled. He looked at her for a few seconds. However he refused to wave back or smile. In fact it just made him more upset. No one really knew why.

"Yes, what do you want?" Mrs. Reese asks her.

"I would like to speak to Justin for a minute." Audrie says boldly.

"I'm sorry, Audrie. That just can't happen. They have to sit in silence and for Justin to be able to speak is unfair." Audrie bit her lip and met Ellie's eyes. Ellie motioned for her to continue.

"Well then I would like to join detention." Audrie says stupidly. Ellie, Aiden and Hadley all face palm.

"No no, Audrie, you did nothing wrong. My answer is no. Go back to your dorm." She points to the door.

Audrie walks out of the room greatly embarrassed. She was never doing that again. She was never going to listen to Ellie ever again. Yet she still needed to show Justin that she would do anything. The only reason she couldn't join was because she did nothing wrong. So she just had to get Mrs. Reese to catch her doing something bad.

Audrie walks back to the choir door. She sits by the door trying to think of anything. Immediately she thinks it would be a great idea to just barge in and start demanding she be let in. That wouldn't be very impressive though. She continues to think for a little while longer. In her mind she was just hoping that she would think of something. She needed to do something.

Audrie stood up to start pacing around. Thoughts and ideas kept popping up into her mind. However they were all stupid so she shot them down. The more bad ideas she got the more frustrated she was. There was just nothing good enough that would make Justin listen to her. At least nothing she could think of. Right as she was turning to walk away she saw something that she knew would get her into trouble. The fire alarm.

This is a bad idea. She thought to herself. Which is exactly what makes it a good one.

Audrie bites her lip and pulls the alarm. For some reason the sprinklers also go off which was not apart of her plan. She shrivels up under the feeling of the freezing cold water. A few moments later and the detention door opens up revealing a very angry Mrs. Reese.

"Am I bad enough now!" Audrie yells overtop of the alarm. Mrs. Reese's face reaches a whole new level of red.

"Get in here right now! You will be lucky if you aren't expelled!" She yells at her.

"What have I done!" Audrie yells to Ellie. "You gave me bad advice!"

"I never told you to do this!" Ellie yells. "Why set off the sprinklers?"

"I didn't set off those!" Audrie yells back at her. Something dawns on the two of them.

"Mrs. Reese, there actually is a fire. I think Audrie's stupidity is saving everyone right now." Ellie yells.

"Nice try, Ellie!" Mrs. Reese yells. "Everyone wait while I go turn these off."

As soon as she leaves everyone runs for their lives. They aren't the only ones that realize that this is serious. There is nothing better than fleeing for your life away from detention.

"You are so stupid!" Justin yells at Audrie.

"At least you are talking to me again." Audrie yells with a triumphant smile.
