Miranda POV

The week past fast to me, I'm sure to Carla it was hell, basically having to stay in bed for a week, she was ready to go to school today, but I could tell she was nervous.  "What's wrong?" I asked.

"I just don't want everybody's sympathy, I just hope everybody goes along with there day, just because this happened, doesn't mean I want people to start being nice to me." She said.

We ate breakfast and rode to school in silence, I had went through the school board, and got permission to take her to and from school, of course me and Mrs. White left out some details, the school board was still happy to let me help.

She was still on crutches, and she would be for a while, she was being stubborn and wouldn't let me carry her bag, she went to her locker and I wanted to stay and be protective, but I knew I couldn't.  I saw Becky walking up to her, I wanted to stop her, but my gut told me to let it go.

"Carla," Becky said as Carla turned around.

"Look, I just want to get this out of the way, I'm sorry, I'm sorry for the past 4 years, I should have never been the way I've been to you, when you broke my nose that day, I deserved it, and you should have done it a long time ago, and I'm sorry for what happened on the court, I know you don't want to be friends, and we don't have to be, just know that I am sorry, and we will win state this year, and it will be for you," and with that she turned and walked away.

I really think Carla was stunned because she didn't move for a minute, and actually I was really shocked also.  The rest of the day went by smoothly, we were in gym class and the girls were taking an easy day since tomorrow was game day.  We were 10 minutes in when I noticed Carla never came to class.  Once the bell rang I dismissed the girls and went straight to look for her, she was waiting by the car.  "Why didn't you come to gym?" I asked.

"I can't go in there" was all she said while getting in the car.  I didn't want to push the subject.  "Are you riding with us to the game tomorrow?" I asked her.

"No" she gave me a short answer.

"Carla it would mean the world to the girls if you did, they want to do this for you." I said calmly even though I really wanted to scream.

"What go watch them, do what I dream about doing, hell right now I would love to walk on two feet, but I can't." I knew she was bitter, and I decided to drop it, because David was coming for dinner tonight, I needed them two to be ok with one another, especially since David was really the only family I had left.

Once we got home she went straight to the room, I knew just to give her time, I started getting everything ready for dinner when the door bell rang.  I opened the door and David was dressed nicely and a glass of wine, "Hi, well, I know she's under age but it was the only thing I knew to bring" he said.

I just smiled, "one glass won't hurt her, come on in," we walked into the kitchen.

"So how is everything going?" David asks.

"It's going, she got to go back to school today, I think it was harder then she thought it would be, she's up in the room right now, she just needs a little time." I said while getting everything prepared.

"Miranda, when, um, when do you plan on letting me talk to her?" he asked.

"When I think she is ready," I said.

"Is it when you think she's ready, or when you're ready, because right now I can't tell the difference." he said.

"David, do you have any idea what the hell this is going to do to her, she's is going to think I've known from day one, I'm never going to make her believe me, she wont trust me, and she'll leave me." I could feel the tears threaten to spill from my eyes.
